I personally like the piece of mind knowing the cable is locked in place until i release it. I made one very much like yours and have now switched it over to a positive lock. To each their own and yours suits your needs. Until i used one, I really don't have a good handle on what my needs really were.
I put a small engine pull handle on the end of the cable on mine as well.

I have a question, why do you prefer a PVC tube instead aluminum, copper or iron? I think PVC breaks with low temperatures.
The primary reasons are: cost, easy to work with, less binding through the caps, light and the pvc is strong enough to get the job done. The only complaints I have heard are from the northernmost states as you indicate. Great video Geezerman.
Some wd-40 or spray silicone will take care of sticky locks, ive used mine for 5+ years no problems.Never broke one either. If coon is caught by back foot, put noose around neck, stretch coon out and stand on his chest, they die in under 2 minutes. If he is caught by front feet, noose him,pin his head down, grab his back feet, then stand on his chest.Put as much weight as u can on his chest.U have to be careful, coon are tough and THEY DO BITE.Wear good thick leather gloves and be careful.Dont recommend inexperienced trappers try this till u get some experience handling animals.I catch 50+ coon a year and have not shot one for some time.I like to put both my holes in the end of pvc cap,but does it make a difference.Same for fox or coyote.
