They sure will. If you're trying to dry castors in warm weather, you might do well to keep a fan on them until the outside is no longer wet. In the warmth of summer, this doesn't take long, but those flies will ruin castors if you let them lay and hatch eggs on them.

every time i try to dry them in my shed the mold i seen yours that time but mine never look like yours summer or winter about the giving i made you enough money last fall that you can buy every bodys know lmao 3toes

One thing you may also want to keep an eye on is those little grub like bugs that get into pelts and things of that sort. I wish I knew what they were called but if you've ever left a pelt out in the fur shed too long in the spring , you'd know which ones I meant. I have bought a good bit of castor only to have to send it back because it was full of them. So not only do you have to keep an eye on the flies but careful you don't leave them hang around too long. Yep, probably should just give them to Paul.

3T I try to do all my castor drying in the winter when the blo-flies aren't out. If I have to do it in the summer, I string wires and hang the castors over the wires. I put a fan where it will blow directly and hard on the castors. I stay with them and shoo away any flies that land on them until they're no longer wet. When the exterior is dry, I turn them over on the wire so the under part will be exposed to the air. I do the same with this until the outside is no longer wet. When the outside isn't wet, the flies won't lay eggs. Good luck.

Once you have them dried, don't put them in a bucket or any place except in a freezer. They will grow mold if you put them in a sealed container, or in a dark moist place. Freezer works best. Before using these frozen dried castors, thaw them out and hang them on the wires again. It won't take long to dry them. When thawing, they will become wet again, and that's why you need to hang them again.

However, better than freezing dried castor is grinding them and putting some 100 proof vodka on the ground castor. You can then seal them in buckets and not worry about the mold, and you won't have to worry about flies.... except bar flies seeking the almost empty 100 proof vodka bottles - lol.

Make you a drying box.

One way is to use an old fridge. Use a saws-all to cut you a hole in the side. Now mount a bathroom exhaust fan in the hole. On the opposite side cut another hole and cover with a screened vent. You need this air intake for quick drying. Use the wire racks to hang your castors from. Wire you a plug and you're ready to go. You can wire in a switch or a thermostat too. Redneck ingenuity at it's finest!

I've seen it done. Just never got around to or thought I needed such a monster! LOL

Been using one for years!

Here's three trays full of squeezed beaver oil sacs, about 60 some. I like them semi dry before I grind and to add to my bait blend. These don't get nearly as aromatic as castors do! Man a stack of five trays full of castor will fill the air with that oh so grand flavor we all love!

BTW that's a RONCO original dehydrator! Dang antique! LOL
