Dave, What do you mean "once in a while"? We're here to provide happy endings all the time. Of course, the customer nearly always has a happy ending and then their check bounces and our ending ain't so happy. ( I guess you're right )

Peskycritter,

Carpenter bee trap
1. Drill ½-inch holes through center of each side of block of untreated soft wood. Holes should meet in middle of block. These are bee entrances.
2. Drill appropriately size hole in bottom center of block. I used water bottles with 1-inch diameter threads. Hole should intersect holes drilled for bee entrances. High tech trap- drill hole large enough for bottle cap, cut top off of bottle cap, glue cap threads into hole, screw bottle into threads.
3. Hang is all areas of carpenter bee activity. Bees enter through holes in sides and attempt to exit through water bottle. Empty bottles as required.

Awesome trap thanks for sharing that . These carpenter bees are becoming a big problem up here . So no bait they just see the hole then fly in it .

Is hanging this trap necessary...say for instance you have some carpenter bees that have taken an interest in the back porch?

Hanging the trap makes it easier to move them from place to place. I like to hang them near their flight paths. Most of the Carpenter Bees, around here, do most of their damage near rooflines,i.e., open joists, rafters, soffits, fascia boards, etc.

Sounds like these carpenter bees are attacking all over the country . Talked to others about them in other states and there eating people's decks . The ones I'm seeing here look like a big bumble bees and they eat over hangs on homes

So how did they ever get the name carpenter bees? Demolition bees would be more like it.

Look for tiny tool belts 'round their waists. Just like with "gardener snakes", who carry hoes and shovels.
