Watched the news the other day and they said something about Pythons being in Florida. Has anyone had to deal with a snake like that ? How would you handle something that big??

Had one call for a big snake on a deck. Lady screaming in the phone... It was a voice mail thank God. by the time i called her back she was calm and the police had arrived (aparently she called them first, they told her to call me, then she called them right back after I did not answer directly..) she just told me a huge snake on her deck... I asked her to call me back to let me know what the police said. She told me she would. I just wanted to know how big this snake really was. Figured it was a black snake or something... She called back and said after looking at the snake, that was sitting there the whole time not moveing, they decided it had to be a pet and went to the neighbors, knocking on the door. kid comes over and picks up the Bermise Python and took it home. Guess she was telling the truth. said it was 9 feet long...
Life is not how many breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.

We usually get 3-4 every year, some are just abandoned in cages where a tenant moves out, others are escapee's. The student's at Syracuse University had a habit of turning a few really large ones loose in the dorms when they left a few years ago. We took one almost 15 foot Burmese Python. Last year we had a Columbian Red Tail Boa in a ladies garage, with a shed,it was close to 10 feet. Months later we heard from the owner who said it had traveled a couple miles from his home to where we captured it. We have a market for all of them, along with the larger lizards we remove, Iguanas' and Monitor's. They are usually sold before we even go on the call. Just last week we had 2 Ball Python's and a small Anaconda that a tenant left behind when they moved out. Last year we removed a Green Tree Boa from a ladies home, not too big, only a few feet, but it was the nastiest snake I ever saw. It eventually bit the man we sold it to. I would have made a pair of boots out of it if it got me.

I get alot of calls for "big" and "deadly" snakes. Most turn out to be garter of black rats...

I have some pythons and my alltime favorite are the burmese, in fact I have my little one next tome on the sofa as I write this. Out of the big 5 ( burmese python, reticulated python, African rock python, green and yellow anacond. ) the burmese is by far the most dicile out of the lot, but it is not a good idea to touch any of then if you have been in contact with any kind of rodent before as the smell can get them into a feeding mode and that can get nasty. Take a spray bottle of alcohol with you and in the event of getting tagged by one, spray the alcohol into the mouth / nose area of the snake. They hate it and will put in to reverse gear as quick as anything. Vodka or Gin will work as well.

Wow do you do nuisance wildlife work there? I live in a small house on a vineyard here and the rent is cheap as long as I keep the rats, rabbits, lizards and partriges down, soit is more of a hobbie then serious work nowadays. A nice side effect is, I like rabbit and partige and donīt have to buy food for my snakes either ATB Michael
