The front wheels will not engage all the time. It's very intermittent. Of course I notice it most when I really need it.

Any ideas why it's doing this?

Those hubs engage by an electromagnet turned off and on by the 4x4 switch. The wire is broken inside the plastic sheathing somewhere, usually where the wire enters the front wheel assembly. Easiest way to find it is to jack up/suspend the atv so all of the wheels are off the ground, start it up, engage 4x4 drive and wiggle the wire until you find where it is causing the hubs to engage/disengage.

This is sad, but I can't even find the wire. I know exactly what you are talking about. Just don't see the wire.

Might be mud on the wheel assemblies hiding it. My experience is with a late 90's Explorer, the wire was on the inside of the assembly, your newer one may have a different set up. It may just be in the switch too. Get the wheels off the ground and dig in. Could be a bad ground somewhere too.

Yeah! And then I'll sell all my traps and only use MB550/650's! 😉

I'll trade you my MB550s for Bridger #2 offsets. I just like what works, don't really care about the name or price... Bridgers work... so do Honda's. I bought a '06 Honda 4x4 wheeler that runs every time I need it to for $1500, and just bought a Honda 200 3 wheeler that once we get it fixed up, will as well, for $70.

We have a Kawasaki here too, husband owned it when I met him... rode it a few times after spending a day each time to get it to start at all, but it poured oil out the whole time, needed to add oil daily... left it set for 3 months once, and then it never started again, lol. I'd like to get it to run again and trade it for a 1980s Honda....

That's all great but he's not asking on the title of his thread what brand ATV does everyone like and why! I love trapperman but people do kill me, if you can't offer advice to what he's having trouble with move on!

My advice is to trade up to a Honda, how is that? Am I following the rules now?

Had the same problems with a 2002 sportsman 500HO just got it back today after about $600.00 in parts and labor.
Might check the wiring to make sure they are connected good up in the area in front of the forks.

This is exactly right. Apparently some people are so arrogant they think we all care about their opinion that wasn’t asked for. It never fails here.
For a possible answer, I had a similar issue on one of my bikes once and it was mud packed and dried around the activation switch to the point it pulled the electrical connector off the switch. Cleaned the mud and problem gone.

This is what you can do. Unplug the wiring harness going into the AWD switch. Take a little wire bend it into a U shape and put a end in the solid brown wire and other end in brown wire with white strip. Then plug it back in. Your button will work both in 2 wheel and 4 wheeel
