I personally don't think it's an East-West thing I think it's an individual trapper thing. If you are an open-minded trapper, you would be sucessful. Closed minded and set in your ways, not gonna do so well. No bean fields here, gonna have to sub something in. Water trappers would have a much easier time than land trappers IMO.

I learned how to trap in WA and ID but I now live in Eastern Nebraska and I would consider it more Eastern than Western here. I have had just as much sucess here as out west just different species. No fox where I used to live but had plenty of coyotes I just used the same technique and I have done pretty good here. the biggest differences I see are people here seem to be more understanding about hunting and trapping. Out west I would never tell anybody I trapped. I just got the feeling that most people were against it. I guess the trap ban that got voted in proved that. I do miss the large tracts of land open to trapping and hunting. However, I do see an advantage to smaller acres and more pinpoint trapping. Bottom line to me is if you know how to trap and know the habits of animals you will do well anywhere.

Colton Just finished reading all your post and my ? to you is
why do you have to be such a ______ hole to everone?
Don't be a hater be a congratulater. You claim to have all this
experience catching cats here(ID),but like me you never done it.
I know you check your bro line but that paper you carry lets you
ck and remove animals not reset traps. So if your a law abiding citizen like I know you are you left the traps that held animals
sprung. So you can't claim to have cought cats in Idaho.
One more thing how do you intend to trap in Id when you lived in
Nevada this past 8mo,you have to live here 6mo.So if you have a
Id license then you falsaifed documents(jail time)but you wouldn't do that.So i say good luck to your bro but you just hang
out on the puter so you don't get in trouble.OUT

Ive trapped back east in NH and SC and out west in Central OR and here in MT. The biggest difference I see is in the desities of animals. The east just supports more critters per square mile than most areas out west. In the east you have to deal with lots of people, way more than anything most of us out here. Distance is a big factor also. Back east I was long lineing if I had a line over 70 miles round trip. Here in MT thats not even one way. Here I usually expect action at a set within a week or I pull it. Back east a day or so. Human odor seems to be a much bigger issue east, due to the humidity and moisture in the soil. Out here its so dry I think it dissapates very fast. Anyway, I seemed to handle to change pretty easy. I dont care who you are it will take a little bit to adapt to the local conditions. if your an experianced trapper you figure it out pretty quick wether its a cornfield in NH or a sage flat in MT.

Now you are talking.

Iv hunted and trapped in the east all my life and i would love to see these flat land fence rows with these fine roads leading me right to my traps that this Idaho high schooler is talking about. They dont exist here where I am. As for the east being harder than the west I dont know. But I do know what its like in the east and here we set and run our OWN traps in the mud and snow,WALK up hill and down hill, fight and argue with the "hound hunters" over why they think your trap belongs to them since THEY pulled it from the ground while trespassing.
