I got this coon from a roadkill the other day and remembered someone on here asking about the money cut for skinning coon. Had the wife take some pics of me making the initial cuts on this coon to help you guys out for skining your coons and getting the most length out of them. Here is how I do it....

First I step on the foot away from me and pull the feet/legs into a straight line across like this

Then make a straight cut from heel/ankle to heel/ankle just above the testicles

Next cut up along each side of the rectum on the edge of the skin and the fur along side the testicles and to the initial cut from heel to heel

Next cut along the top of the rectum and start about 4 inches up the tail and cut straight down the middle towards the base of the tail

Next just peel down the hide from the legs and skin as you would any other critter.

This coon ended up 4XL on the 54" board. Hope this helps some of you guys out.

Thanks Magnum, I just happen to come across him, the wife was handy and it really didn't take any time at all to do it. In fact it took me longer to put it up on here than to actually skin him out....LOL

Show the belly side too flatset. Your cuts and back look exactly like mine but I would like to see how you put the extra flap of fur and legs on the belly side.

Here is the belly side. I trim out about 1/16" to 1/8" around the edge of the window to clean it up. I also on bigger coon like this one pin the edge of the window to keep it from rolling up on me. I just went and took this pic, forgot to take one on the belly side when I was taking pics.

yep, they dry very well that way. Greg from NAFA showed me that trick about 10 yrs ago. The grease soaks into the cardboard so you dont have to wipe the tail down at all. The tail looks nice done up that way too.

If you start on the top side of the foot and follow the fur line in your cut; you get a little more length the easy way.

I started using a hooked blade after watching ADC' video and for going from heel to heel you can't beat it...IMO...Tom
