yep i am. i went out this morning to scout for tracks, and found a bunch. i'm just about to go and adjust some traps so they fire with less pressure. oh and would pork liver work instead of beef?

Here is one I caught today. Pretty small. It was laying dead and frozen on the snapped trap. Must have hit him in the head-

This is the little one I caught today next to one I got about a week ago in the same box.

And this is a pic of a box that I lost in the ice til spring-

Jbotto I think the pork liver would be fine. The main thing is bait is fresh and as bloody as you can keep it. With our recent cold snap it's going to be harder to keep bait fresh form freezing just do the best you can. The pic that Q ball posted is a fine example of what your bait should look like.

Qball good going on the catches. I see you even have them surrendering to you. Saves from taking them out of the trap.

One recommendation I would give you is when you make your boxes don't be afraid to make the back more open with more wire mesh. For a couple reasons first scent of your bait will get out more and second when the weasel looks in there's more light and it seems more like a culvert. Nice setup though with the bait.

The one you lost through the ice is definitely gone until it opens back up. LOL

Happy trapping guys. Have fun and good luck.

I want to see more pics!!!

Racerboy- yeah the little one couldn't take the the pressure and just folded right there-lol I have a inch and a half hole with screen over it but the next boxes I build I'll make the end a little more open. I just got two dozen more rat traps in the mail yesterday and now I'm a little short on boxes.
The iced-in box happened over x-mas. I didn't check it for a few days and the ice was up to the lid. I slid the lid open and caught another mouse- when I checked it a few days later, the whole thing was iced. At least they're easy to replace-

Qball where you from?

What I would recommend to you is make your front hole 2" and the back I like using wire mesh across the whole back.

Your going to be busy making boxes for sure. Got to put those new traps to work to help pay for them. Better your odds.

Good luck.

It takes practice. Somwhere a while back some one had some pictures for a guide on how to skin it was very informational. Maybe it would be in the archives.

2poor would be better at answering this he'll be on later I'm sure.

You guys got all your new boxes out or moved to different locations?

I want to see some more catches tomorrow.

Jbotto remember pressure is on you. LOL

TrapperMN I couldn't find those pictures of skinning. Mainly cut down about a third of the tail and pull with your fingers slowly. You will lose a tail once in awhile.

Qball you still pressuring those weasels on giving themselves up or you still trying to submerge your boxes in the ice.LOL

Welcome to our thread Weasel80 I see you caught some already. Great job on that now go get some more.

Good luck guys. You guys are giving me the itch to give up on other trapping and go back to weasels. I was trapping them with my 8 year old then the snow got so deep for him to get out to the traps so we pulled them.

So its really werid so yesterday before all the snow, i went to go check traps and there was nothing no sign or anything is it possible that there was only 2 weasel on 20 acres?

Now you have got a choice to make. There probably are more there but usually only a few will occupy a certain area and if you pull some out of that area usually more will move back in. But sometimes it takes awhile. What you could do is move some of your traps around a little. Maybe just even move them down a 100 feet or so makes a difference. I have pulled 4-5 out of a single culvert then I would pull the trap not to overtake an area. If new sign showed up later in season I might try that spot again but otherwise I move on.

Their should be more on 20 acres but depends on habitat. Are you in the swamp or on the edge. Or setup in the woods or are you just setting culverts.

I think there are days they just move better than others. Right before or during snow they seem to do very good.

For me it always seems it went in spurts where you would catch a few then you would have a couple days of nothing then before you know it you'll pick up some more.
