I won't say it isn't possible but I think it's highly unlikely your going to catch a coyote in a coni.

Fox you will catch them sometimes in a coni but there again not the best way to try to trap them.

Maybe someone else would have some good ideas on some setups with coni's but when I go after fox/coyote I use leg holds or snares.

"I use to be a trapper when i was younger" i was shocked so any ways i got a new piece of Private property to trap on smile fresh mink and weasel sign everywhere!

Were you accesing the pond from the road easment or did you cross private land and tresspass ?

In MN all water surface is Public and legal to use for recreation.

That is, " if you can reach the water from a legal easment" like a creek that goes across the road. Just wondering what the circumstanses were and how you reached the pond?

This is why I hesitated to tell you to stand your ground when somebody was checking your sets last week. I thought you may have been pushing the limit a little.

10" or 10' if you are crossing Private property you will have trouble. While you could most likely not be charged with tresspasing ,he would of had every right to ask you to leave.

Keep in mind as a Trapper, even a young one, you are setting an example for the public to view the rest of us.

This time it all worked out, next time it may get ugly. Be respectful of Private property. Hate to see you at the wrong end of the law !

Just trying to help you avoid troble down the road. Not all land owners are quite as understanding.

Glad it worked out so well this time, but be careful.

Congrats on all the catch! I only wish we had those snowy white weasels down here in KS. There soooooo cute!
PS- A male mink is a boar not a buck.

In all my years in the fur industry, even dealing with mink ranchers, I have always heard them referred to as bucks.

Having seen your post I did some google research and you are absolutely correct, they are boars. Will tuck that away in my knowledge base

trapperMN sounds like your getting more traps out. And you gained some new land. Met an old time trapper. Sounds good all the way around.

Not to beat the bush but 2poor was giving you some real good info about trespassing. Don't mean to say you were or was going to but anytime you even have a doubt about trapping somewhere that you think could be private property I wouldn't even park by the road and look like I was going to enter before I had talked to the owner. Sometimes people really give young people a bad rap and this could of went the wrong way just as quick but fortunately it turned good for you.

So did you get any traps set for the fox/coyotes?

This can only be answered by what you feel. If your not comfortable about it I would either call the guy and talk some more and make sure it's alright or just pull them there's always other spots to trap. Who knows moving might bring you into a better place as well.
