I've been using tie wire attached directly to the spring to anchor my 330 beaver traps to nearby alders or large willow stems. For strength purposes, I am going to change that system and use 3/32 cable but I don't think I want to have a large length of cable permanently attached to the conni. Seems like it would be a big hassle packing them around with the cable on them.

I was thinking about attaching a short cable length to the spring with a double ferrule and then making a short loop on the free end of that cable. Then I would carry an assortment of longer lengths of cable with loops on both ends and attach one end to the trap loop to loop. The free end of the long cable would wrap around the anchor tree and be fastened with some sort of snap.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Ole

Quick Clip 1/4" or 5/16" work excelent. I know a few of the supply houses carry them including Kaatz and Locklear.

I use 1/8" 7x19 cable for extentions. 6' long, and will use 2 when necisary. Best thing I have used yet. They wrap up well, store a lot in a small area and work wonderfull. Plus they are lighter and cheaper than chain.

I trap 90% of my Bevs in a river. I use 6' to 8' of double loop chain w/ 2 to 3 swivels. I stake in the water down stream, this keeps the catch 12' to 16' away from the set. Bevs passing by don't get as spooked and caught Bevs don't get chewed as much. I didn't like cable for this set up because it would untwist when catches roll and roll in the current.

I have a 12" pc of wire hanging off the last swivel I stake thru. I just wrap the chain around the trap and bend the wire around a jaw to keep it there.

I also have a 6" or so pc of light wire in the loop of each spring on my 330s and 280s. I use this to wire to hold safety hooks out of the way when setting under water or in slides where springs have to be "up" to fit.

I know that isn't really what you asked but sometimes it helps to see other rigs and pick and choose parts that work for you.

I would sugest puttin a swivel on the end of the short cable your attaching to the trap then you can use one of the assorted lengths your talking about hooked on with a quick clip

I like chain, I put 6' of chain on mine. I attach the chain to the trap with a "Tear drop ring" and put a dog clip on the end.

i use the quick links as well. i keep the chains on my coni's, then hook the cable around a tree or root, then use the quick link to attach to the chain.

when i get a catch i have a preset coni ready and just change out the full trap and remove the animal on solid ground.

I have cable extensions in assorted length and thicknesses that I use for most of my bodygrip traps(have 16" cables w/ swivels on them) and snares. Ext.s have loop one end and quick attach snare combo swivel on other. Carry a few quick links for odd situations.

I do the same except I use cable instead of chain.

Maybe everyone else knows what a dog clip is, but this rookie needs a little more explanation.

Thanks, Jim

Roger,I also use 1/8 inch cable--it lasts a lot longer than 3/32.
I use 7 links 0f #2 straight link chain through the spring eye,a universal swivel is used to close the chain around the spring eye.I then attache the cable to the other ind of the swivel.I also have another swivel mid point on some of my cable, and and end swivel on all of them.I stake most of mine and my 1/2 inch rerod stakes work perfectly with the end swivel.
After a bit, you will figure out what works best for you.
Got to run,gat another 2 or 3 dozen 330,s to cable and swivel.

On the anchor end of my cable I slide on a double ferrule then loop the cable around and put it back through again in the same direction, then hammer on a single stop. The loops do not cinch down so tight you cannot get them back open but they tighten down on a good stick real nice. Fast light and strong.

Rodger good input there. I am fairly new here too. I use cable both 3/32 and 1/8. with snare swivels,I have had no problems yet. I will replace all the 3/32" with 1/8" soon though.run 18" of cable then snare swivel then extensions. I also use the heavey duty quick-set tie-off ends on the end of my extension cables that makes it supper fast to tie off, cant loose any parts, all hooked together.

A quick clip is the same thing as a rock climbers karabiner

oval shape with one side hinged with a return spring

I use 3/32 on my bodygrips. All of them from 110s up. I have the same setup with different lengths of cable on all but the 110s at present. These are permanent.
First I cut the chain off the spring. Then I cut the ring on the chain put it through the spring eye and reweld it. Then comes a swivel, the chain, another swivel, 5 to 6 feet of cable depending on trap size, last an earth anchor. I have not swiveled the 110s I have yet but they get 3 feet of cable and an anchor.
This all wraps around the trap for storage. If extensions are needed it is simple to add on at the cable eye on the anchor. The anchor can be punched in or tied off depending on circumstances.
I like the 3/32 as it is much more flexible the the 1/8. The 1/8 does last longer but does not wrap for storage on the trap as nicely.

What I do is ring through spring eye, box swivel, one link of chain and another ring. Then I just use a snare, thread snare around tree stake whatever and cinch snare up behind ring on trap. When trap is not in use, snare is coiled and seperate.
