I want to make some gland lure and some of the recipes have the liver in them and some do not. What would the purpose of the liver be in a canine gland lure? It makes sense to me to use the glands that are at or near the surface of the hide and the reproductive glands but I am confused as to the benefit of using the liver. What are your thoughts/comments?

In my opinion adding the liver along with glands will simply make it a combination food/gland lure.
Nothing wrong with that, the more callings a lure incorporates the more interest it may hold regardless of the aninmal's mood or agenda that day when he arives at a set.
However, a food lure would not be an appropriate lure at a scent post or blind scent set as examples, only appropriate at a dirthole set which simulates something edible buried there. Asa

Asa,
That is what I was thinking and since I am looking for using this lure at scent post/flat sets i will be leaving the liver out.

upstate,
Simply glands and urine, that's about what I'm gonna do.

Thanks,

Fresh glands in straight urine gland lures used at scent post and flat sets. In my opinion, tainted glands are better in combination food/gland lures. Asa
