What approx ratio or mix of scent/flavor to heat liquified vaseline is suggested to get a cooled paste lure? Does it very by scent?

The only thing I have found to mix with vaseline is pure skunk. Other than that the petroleoum smell will tend to be a problem with gland or food lure type smells. Just my .02 worth. Dan.

dschurr is correct, the odor of vaseline will repel a lot of canines from my testing. With skunk musk the vaseline odor is overpowered so works OK. However, vaseline also tends to nulify odors over time that are formulated using it as a base. Asa

I've heard someone say Crisco was good to use. Warm it until it's liquid and add the scent of your choice, let it cool back to a pasty grease. Any of the more experienced guys ever use this or have any thoughts on it?

I just find the pic amusing now... lol

I used it as a base and found it crusts up and quits omitting a strong odor. When I'd resmeared it it'd smell loud again. I didn't like that aspect.

I was dating a girl who used it as a wrinkle preventative. grin She always had it on her face!!! I used to tease her about her high-gloss look. Kinda hesitant to admit that, but anyway, she kept bananas and a jar of Vaseline in her back pack/purse, and the Vaseline always smelled like bananas. It just picked the smell up from being in the same bag. That was partly why I tried it as a base.

Come on now and tell the rest of the story. What did she do with the banana after smearing it with vaseline?

Nowadays it just don't pay to be a good 'ol boy.

An ounce of oil in about 12 Oz of Petroleum Jelly will be adequate.

I find it as a very easy way to apply scents like Anise in cold weather.

I think lanolin would be a good choice.

A much better choice for canine lures for sure. Asa

Has anybody tried coconut oil as a base? It is odorless and is solid below 76 degrees f. and turns to liquid above 77 degrees. Walmart sells it along with the shortenings and cooking oils.

I will be using them mainly for coon and mustelids. Is there a better base for paste lure?
