Whats an average time to skin and flesh a coon.

Jerry can skin and flesh one in about 5 minutes.

takes me bout that long just to get one skinned.


most people dont like messing with them because theyre so greasy.

skinning, i think is easy,fleshing--fast......

the greese in the hide is a big factor but the more you do them, it gets easier
why is everyone with this speed kick?

i dont know about speed lol,sure took me some time on my first last week. had a time fleshing it.skinning was fast and not to bad.alot of greasy fat on the one i got lol.learning takes time lol.

Well up until this year... 3 seconds... I dropped it off to a Amish guy and he skinned, fleshed, stretched them for me for 2.50... still debateing if I should pay him or do it myself this year

after putting a coon on a bord lightly sprinkle borax on the hide and rub it in. once you do it you will know what i mean.

I was told by several fur buyers to never put borax on any animal that is sold fur in. They expect it on cats and coyotes as every western trapper dry washes his cats in borax so it isn't a big deal. But coons, mink, beaver, ect, they will dock you hard on it. Had somthing to do with inspection of the leather. Was told it also could cause problems in some tanning processes.

Maybe I've been giving newbies bad advice, I hope not. I've used Stall Dry on possums and a few coons for several years to cake the grease so it pops off. I wouldn't even bother with possums if Stall Dry didn't make it so quick and easy.

Compared to coyote and beaver, I actually Enjoy pealing coon.

beaver aren't that bad once you now the tricks. i average 7 minutes skinning gutting taking the head and tail off, along with taking castor and oil sacs out.

yotes badger and otter are a little more difficult.

The warmer they are the easier the colder they are the more the RA acts up

smalls and mediums go a lot quicker too....those big ole bruisers are full of fat and I just can't pull it off as easily. I sell mine green anyway, so I can't tell you if they are bad to scrape.

Almost all of my Fur goes to the freezer after skinning but before fleshing. I think it makes them flesh much easier.

Let me put it this way, if it takes three licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop, I would need 27,382. From what I've gathered around here, most folks would need about 9. I got a way to go, eh? Best advice I got from my post "Coon skinning failure question"?

It usually takes me about 5 min. to skin a coon and ten to fifteen to flesh it. I could do it faster, but I like to take my time and I'm not trying to break any records.

I don't have a stop watch in my shed. I know the last one of the evening takes me longer than the first one.

Some days I'm slower than others and sometimes I need more breaks and I hate to let a beer get warm while I'm skinning, so My breaks last a while.

You get a nice female and it's a breeze. Just push off the fat. Dinks and young ones are pretty easy too, especially warm. (Just have to be careful of the nipples.)

You then get an ear-torn, scar-faced nasty old boar bruiser with a scarred up neck and then you feel the pain. Especially if he's stone cold in a conibear. Getting off their neck gristle is pretty tough, even after freezing.

Its all technique. There was a time it took me 30 min to skin a coyote and I might still have screwed up the ears or eyes. Another half hour to 45 minutes to have it on a board.

The one I did a week ago took me about five minutes to skin and 15 to flesh. I had it on a board and everything cleaned up in just over a half hour. I could do a bobcat in about the same time if I wasn't overly anal with them. If I were to push myself I could do it faster. I have done enough that I have a technique down.

I have skinned less than 10 rats in my life. The last one took me 15 minutes to skin because I tore it open and made a mess. And then I still made a bad cut on the face. I think the world champ can skin 5 or 7 in a minute. A beaver might take me 30 minutes to skin. A coon isn't bad, but they are different than a coyote, so it takes me a little longer. I don't have the technique. That is all there is to it.

Feel no shame about it. You can learn a lot by watching someone better than you. Thats how I did it. Having to sew up big holes that you cut steepens the learning curve too. I popped the tail off of about 4 coyotes befor I figured out how not to do it.

Best thing you can do is go to a convention and spend a day beside Greg Schroeder and watch him flesh coon. The man is good.

Skinning is like most things one does. The more you do it the better you get at it.
The first critters I skinned were seconds due to cuts. They took forever to get done. Every thing seemed hard and time consuming.
Now none seem hard and few are what I would call time consuming but I have yet to try a Porkypine.

fleshing coon with nipples you hit them and they can tear a pretty good size hole.
