Passage Of Ohio’s Issue 2 Is “A Win For Everyone”
November 4, 2009
http://www.kla.org/

Ohio voters approved a constitutional amendment in yesterday’s
election to create a Livestock Care Standards Board. With nearly all
precincts reporting, the ballot question was supported by 64% of the
voters, with 36% in opposition.

Issue 2 was drafted and supported by an Ohio agricultural coalition in
response to threats from the Humane Society of the United States to
dictate how food animals are housed and handled through legislation
and/or ballot measures. The 13-member board created as a result of the
amendment’s passage will provide a mechanism for determining and
enforcing guidelines for the care and well-being of livestock and
poultry. Board members will have the authority to ensure the quality,
safety and availability of locally produced food in Ohio .

The Ohioans for Livestock Care Political Action Committee released the
following statement in response to passage of Issue 2: “Passage of
Issue 2 is a win for everyone who acknowledges the essential
relationship between excellent farm animal care and a safe,
affordable, locally grown food supply. Voters agree with Ohio ’s farm
community and our diverse base of supporters - decisions about food
and farming should be made in Ohio , by Ohioans.”

People serving on the board will include the state agriculture
director, family farmers and ranchers, veterinarians, a representative
from a local humane society and consumers.

Issue 2 Statement From Ohioans For Livestock Care PAC
11/04/2009
http://www.cattlenetwork.com/Issue-2-Sta...CN-LATEST_NEWS_

The Ohioans for Livestock Care Political Action Committee (PAC) today
released the following statement in response to the passage of State
Issue 2. The statement can be attributed in part or in its entirety to
John Lumpe, president, Ohioans for Livestock Care PAC.

"Ohioans have spoken and clearly understand that a board of experts is
the appropriate entity to make decisions on behalf of animal
agriculture and food production in our state. Passage of Issue 2 is a
win for everyone who acknowledges the essential relationship between
excellent farm animal care and a safe, affordable, locally grown food
supply. Voters agree with Ohio's farm community and our diverse base
of supporters - decisions about food and farming should be made in
Ohio, by Ohioans.

"We would like to thank Governor Strickland and our legislative
leaders for their support in getting this resolution on the ballot,
our collective farm community for their continued commitment to
responsible farm management and animal care, the more than 500 state
organizations and individual endorsers, and Ohio voters for
recognizing the need for such a board in our state. It is clear that
all Ohioans - rural and suburban, Republican and Democrat - have come
together and recognize just how important agriculture is to the state.

"The Livestock Care Standards Board created through passage of Issue 2
will provide an effective mechanism for determining and enforcing
guidelines for the care and well-being of livestock and poultry, and
for ensuring the quality, safety and availability of locally produced
food in Ohio.

"We look forward to working with the Ohio General Assembly on the
implementing legislation."

Pacelle comments on Issue 2 results

Statement by Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of the Humane Society of
the United States, regarding Issue 2 in Ohio:

“By packaging Issue 2 as pro-animal welfare and pro-food safety, the
architects of the ballot measure went a long way to assure its
passage.

We have not viewed Issue 2 as a poisonous package, but rather an empty
one. The Ohio Farm Bureau and other agribusiness lobby groups cooked
it up in an effort to block real reform.

Now that the Issue 2 campaign is over, we can get on with such real
reform – a measure to phase out the extreme confinement of animals in
veal crates, gestation crates, and battery cages, where they cannot
even turn around and stretch their limbs. Both sound science and
common sense show that these confinement systems are inhumane and
should be phased out.

We decided to spend nearly no money against Issue 2 and to reserve our
energy and resources for an effort to promote the humane treatment of
animals, protect food safety and the environment, and allow Ohio
farmers to remain competitive in the decades ahead.”

The Government shouldn't be lobbied by Pacelle & H$U$ as they couldn't raise worms in a manure pile. The Government should be operating under the understanding that Agriculture people actual do know how and why specific husbandry does work and that veterinarians in conjunction with agriculture folks know Pacelle as a man that has stated he wants ALL DOMESTICATED ANIMALS extinct in one generation. Why do courts and Politicians even listen to this man who claims he wants better care for animals when in fact he doesn't even want them to EXIST? Have the Courts and Legislators gone mad?

Time will come that your average person will no longer be able to buy farm raised meat of any kind. These fools can't see past the end of their fool noses.

Let them make more laws that farmers must follow. Won't be long, and, there will be no farmers nor food.

I'd just like to see what happens when the farmers get sick of it all and turn the millions of cows in the country lose and then see what happens to the vegetarian food supply.
