I can trap them all year hear in Idaho, but I have yet to get one. I am trying to trap some for a farmer but my traps have been out for 3 weeks and nothing but a coyote so far, FRUSTRATING!

Look for fresh digs. This is the time of the year I get my best badgers. Here they like man made grades. Road banks, RR, dirt mounds. They also seem to like the ground with hill compared to flat. They will be where the gophers are.

Are badgers easier to catch early in the season or later?

Actually, there is no "best set" lure, bait for every badger or any other species for that matter.
That said, any hole set baited for a 'cat, fox or coyote, will take most any badger that works it.

...as far as trap/stake set up, any predator trap that will hold a coyote will hold a badger.
On staking, I would personally like a longer chain, so that a badger would not be apt to dig up the stake, as you'd find with a shorter chain. Just my opinion.

Same on snares. An 8" loop a few inches off the ground will catch and hold most badgers!

Foot snares for coyotes, will catch a lot of badgers if in the area.
