How does one Steak out Coon sets in a marsh there this small 3 acre size pond / Marsh with Coon tracks and sign everywhere. it comes from cut corn fields all around

There are old Muskrats houses scattered in the middle of this area that the coonuse for there toilets, Huge piles of crap on these mounds, wondering how one could stake one of these mounds, ( don't have those disposable anchors or stakes,)

The Coon come down to the marsh and walk thru the mud to get to these high spots and drop a load off- I mean, there full of piles, and fresh -- htere just starting to cut the last of the fields around this marsh so not sure if they will move on out or not?

Lots of Muskrats also--

wire your trap to a cement block or something heavy like a sack of rocks

I have about 3 foot of chain or cable on my stoploss traps that have an 18 inch piece of hardwood fastened to 36 inches of PVC pipe. This rig is light and the coons typically tie up in the cattails and are held nicely in these small traps and light stakes.
For coon sets directly I put 5 foot of chain on a homemade 4 prong 1/2 rebar drag and attach to my 1.5 coils with a quick link. The coons tie up in the vegetation quickly.

i have seen where a 12" section of 2by4 is used with a cable attached through the center on the flatside with a washer on the bottom so the cable doesnt pull back through. these are pushed down through packed cattail mats and the board turns flat underneath(same way a pogo works).

not my idea just seen it done.

2 to 2-1/2 feet or so. On wood dams i just push,twist,push,twist....till its down in there. Anchor snares to em and never had one pulled. Gotta twist it to get it out as well. Mud/leaf dams, i just push em in, twist, and pull it till i get it to hang on something. Ends up being like a dead man anchor in the dam or mud....shane

Even a masonry brick or two should work if you wire a couple together then to your trap. Old boy will get caught, jump into water, pull those bricks off the mound into the water & drown. May want to use some type of flagging or string to find it when u check.

Would be water depth dependant of course.

Like they said, put him on a drag. They will soon tangle and cut a big wad of catttails. The coon will definately destroy the muskrat house if you stake him there.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
