My grandfather was a master at the water set. He would cover the trap and any exposed chain with watersoaked leaves putting the sod on the trap last. You also need a good place for the fox or coyote to stand on before he takes that final step, either a large flat rock or a large sod. he should be able to walk with dry feet right up to that last step with the trap as close to the stepping off spot as possible. Funny thing with the 'old man' when he caught a coyote it was a brush wolf, If I snared one it was just a stupid coyote.
