Me and somebody else called the DNR and are now on their nuscience(spelling?) animal list, which would probably be for problem coyotes, skunks, and beavers, and was wondering what you guys would charge for this (if anything)? The DNR guy is going to give us a permit if we need to get some animals out of somewhere (like the animals I mentioned above), so we will be legal, but I am wondering what you would charge for this, since it will not be a full time job, just something done before my dad goes to work, but I would think you should charge something for it since it will use time, gas, supplies, etc to get this done. I am also wondering if maybe we should be removing the animals for free, in exchange for trapping ground in the fall, but what I am mainly wondering on is if we wouldent get anything in exchange, what the price should be for each of these animals, set up, gas, etc. Please post any info you have on this. Thanks

There are many threads on this ADC forum about pricing.... best to use the search option and check them out. Pricing varies by region. Keep in mind.... doing anything for "money" is considered a commercial business, so liability insurance is highly suggested. Costs will reflect your insurance, equipment, fuel/maintenance costs, TIME, advertising, taxes, legal fees, and a number of additional costs associated with operating a business. Every state has different regulations, so it's real important to be familiar with every aspect of doing this type of work. Your recurring costs (insurance, ads, etc) will never stop, so your pricing structure needs to reflect those costs. Doing it part-time will make those insurance payments a major factor. The bills will continue to show up in the mailbox even if you're not getting any calls. Something to think about.

There are hundreds of posts on this forum that discuss both “starting” and “pricing”. The information is already here. Why re-invent the wheel? Information on using the SEARCH function is also available.

Starting- http://www.trapperman.com/forum/ubbthrea...tml#Post1635336
Pricing- http://www.trapperman.com/forum/ubbthrea...tml#Post1457352

It costs $40 just for me to show up. Then it goes up and up from there.

The $40 covers the snake calls that turn out to be either a hose or a rubber toy snake. If you didn't have the show up fee you would get stiffed on these calls.

And when you get at least 2 a year and they are NEVER close by.

That is about the same for me here. $60-90 to check and reset traps per trip. I don't charge a per animal fee. I charge for my time, & amount of traps used .

My time is precious and being from Florida fur trapping rights never made sense to me. I mean if prime coons are going so cheaply these days imagine what a Florida fur would bring in. The only exception was few years back for our nearly blond otter pelts.

In my area the going rate for squirrel, skunk, raccoon jobs seems to be $75 to check out the site and maybe set traps and $50 per animal caught. So as a new WCO that's what I'm charging.

I don't think you can get a realistic idea of what to charge from a site like this. Let me explain;

Let's say my house is worth $500,000 and I pay $5000 a year for property tax. I need to charge $150 set-up and $50 per raccoon.

In North Dakota my very same property is worth $250,000 and I pay $2500 in taxes. I only need to charge $75 set-up and $25 per raccoon.

But in California my house is worth a million bucks and my property tax is ten grand. Now I need a $300 set-up and $100 per raccoon.

And the amount of money you need varies widely in the same state. I could never figure out how a heavy equipment operator in northern Wisconsin could exist on one third less wages and pay one third more for beer. Being an alcoholic in the upper half of the state was really expensive!
