Should you miss a front foot catch his big back foot will be between the levers instead of on top of them.

Those make a good inexpensive beaver trap. I would turn that trap a quarter turn though and have it a couple inches off center and it really needs to be set down in a 'bed' so that the whole trap is slightly below "ground level" on the bottom.

it looks off center to me in the pic. i think it looks pretty good, but definitely turn the trap as stated by beachcomber13.

sometimes when the beaver's back foot hits the pan, it may be standing on one or both jaws as well. when the trap would go off the jaws will fling the feet right out of the trap. with the trap turned so levers face shore and water, the jaws wont fling the foot out. Make sense?

I'd get rid of that big stick in front of the trap, when he comes in he could very easily push it into your trap with his chest. If its meant to be a stepping stick I don't believe its needed, just my opinion. I don't know the snaring laws where you live but if you can use them they are a great tool in a set like this.

good point... I would pull that out.

Also, how deep is that water there where the trap is? just wondering.

Always put the trap at a 45 degree angle. You want the beaver to walk into the trap, not onto the trap. I learned that the hard way.

I agree with the others. It may work that way but you want them stepping between the jaws not over them. I'd replace the stick with a mound of mud for the beaver to breast on so he starts walking and puts down his foot.

That will work...but if you turn that trap so the one lever points to the bank...you'll up your chances.
Also..you could bump that trap over to the left some more. About 1-1.5" from where the outside of the jaw is now. That'll up your chances at not getting a belly snap.

But...chances are you'll have a beaver in that set...no problems next time you check it!

Definitely turn the trap so the levers are at 12:00 and 6:00. It's very important. You want the foot suitcased. Guide sticks, 14" apart,(pink in the picture) on each side of your trap helps too. The outside trap jaw should be right against one of the guide sticks, this offsets the trap pan 4-4 1/2", which is just right. Those guide sticks will position the feet right where you want them, right between the jaws. Something like this.

The trap is painted white for pictures only.
