Nice set up Tim! I like using cold rolled material for drowners as I have a lot of it on hand, the smooth metal was hard to get square tubing to lock up on so I came up with this solution...

The clip hooks on to your trap chain fast, and lock up is instant on any material...

Nice looking, Jason, I like the rebar and my locks cause they also work on chain. Have you tried yours on chain?

I bend some of my rods at a 150 degree angle at the bottom stop(18" from end). This allows for a better angle into the bottom of stream and keeps rod up from bottom where it is a flatter bank contour. Like shallower fast water areas for mink. Straight rods often are so tight to bottom that slide gets stuck.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Some of my rods are bent up so bad they could be pretzels, but they always bend to what I need them to.

Tim, Thanks, but no I never have tried them on chain, would have to change the I.D. of the circle dependent on chain size but I can't see why it wouldn't lock up tight if sized properly. I'm with you though that a longer pipe or tube would go down a chain faster, and smoothly to the bottom!

Jason
I use smooth rod too and use a 1" piece of 1" x 1" x 1/8" angle iron for the lock
3/8" rod-- gets a 1/2" hole to slide on the rod
and I put a 3/8" hole for the snap link

Another great idea, something thin locks up fast on the smooth rod!

Sure does Jason!
The beavers won't tell me how fast it locks, they're just waiting at the bottom
