Just cut the legs off so you have about 1" hole. If you want to use a rubber band do so BUT DON"T cut off the leg after It's dried. If you do you will leave a very hard and sharp edge. That just might hang up on somthing and tear the hide. It could also tear up a graders hand and then you will lose money.

Cut off the excess with sidecutter after using the rubber band.

just cut them off and leave them alone they dont serve a purpose and the holes will not stretch around the back. you can clothes pin them but i never do.

I like to leave them open so the fur sticks out, and helps show primeness.

Me too Big Bob.

Another thing you should all think about Is It's eaiser to flesh a coon if It's legs are cut off short to begine with.
One swip across a short leg and your done.
After my coon are boarded I just roll out the fur and spread It out so It closes the leg hole and displays the fur. Looks good In my opinion.
No need for any rubber bands or clothes pins

These are some coon you can look at I put the coon on the stretcher (I use wood) after I have scraped. Pull the leg up and pinch it together then make a small cut on the leg top and bottom then cut the rest of leg to each small cut it wil make a real nice hole that will not hurt in the gradeing of the fur and the coons will stack up real nice.
