If you don't laugh yourself into a clean pair of underwear after reading this, then you take life too seriously.

I was working at the pet clinic this morning when I get a call from a home owner that is a "do it your selfer". He has a hole in his yard that he set a trap next to. This morning he caught a skunk. Now he needs someone to come get the skunk and take it away. I tell him I can be there early this afternoon after I get done at the clinic. He says OK.

I get there and the owner asks if I saw the skunk. "No, I didn't" He shows it to me. It is in a small space next to the front door, about 3x4 foot area. My real surprise comes when I see that the skunk is not in a cage trap but in a foot hold trap, looks like a No 1 long spring.

Well there goes my plan, shot to pieces (put a canvas over the trap, take trap and skunk, bring trap back later without skunk). I knew this scenario would happen some day, just didn't know when. I warn the home owner that the skunk is going to spray "SPRAY" and I just don't know what else to do to keep it from spraying.

So I get a net, a large piece of canvas (4 x 12 foot) and a crowbar. I get the canvas over the skunk "SPRAY" sick . Then the net ""SPRAY" sick . Home owner is down wind, he quickly moves upwind, coward laugh. I am working at getting the skunk in the net. I needed the crow bar because the owner had used a tire iron to stake the trap and the skunks face is close to the iron, so I use the crowbar to pull the iron out of the ground. "SPRAY" sick I take the net, canvas, skunk, trap and a plastic plant (where did that come from?) to a cage trap that I have standing on end by my truck at the end of the driveway. I cut the net away and drop everything into the trap. "SPRAY" sick . Shove every thing into the truck. Get paid. grin (Should have charged double. Listen to the whole story next time, idiot!) I spray the area with a plant friendly deodorizer and give the home owner the skunk odor removal recipe and let him do the rest of the odor removal.

I get home. I am very glad that we live in the country and don't have neighbors watching out their windows. I strip my clothes off outside. (Yeah baby take it off!) sick shower and get my clothes soaking.

I LOVE MY JOB!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE SKUNKS!!!!!!!!!!

Got to love customers like that! So much so that they get a free "DUMBA--" out of me.

Been there done that. Put the clothes outside as a matter of course.

As to skunk in a foot hold - inject.

Life is grand.

My wife claims that I was a tad skunky myself today. After taking a shower to appease her, I realized that I needed to cut the lawn. After riding around on the John Deere for an hour, I needed another shower.

My question is this, will two showers so close together, make my skin melt?

I took the trap back to the home owner today. He told me that they have had this hole there off and on for years. He says he is going to fill it in with dirt. I told him about using hardware cloth and large rocks to help prevent a return. He says if it happens again, he will set another trap. I said a cage trap, he said "No I'll just use the long spring again." laugh He also said he will just shoot it and if it sprays he will use the odor removal solution.

Love it!!!

Good one Jon! I always wait for the click of the trap, followed by the sound of a gunshot, followed by an all-consuming stink. That's kinda what I look for in a neighbor.

Paul, Never had the opportunity to test your shower theory (LOL). Can't be too cautious, tho. Like the motto "Hard work never killed any one...but I'm not taking any chances."
