someone asked for me to post something about this subject. so here it goes.
the following is a pic of a atomizer sold by WCS.They run 210.95 plus shipping.
I use what they call citrus neutrox odor counteractant concentrate. this is designed to destroy malodors produced by organic sources. this is NOT a masking agent. as far as the disinfectant I get that down town it's a broad spectrum disinfectant that also can be put threw the same machine.

This is a good addition to the ADC work. I use it for skunk odor removal, dead animal smell, bat guano odors, cigarette smoke and pet urine.I get any were from 30- 45 cents a sq. foot to do this .

Thanks again for posting. Do you use it like a bottle of Febreez? Spraying things like the carpet, curtans, coutches and up in the air? Do you allow your customers in the house while you are treating? Do you spray all rooms in the house? Do you have to sometimes do multipule treatments to be effective for skunks?

The machine turns the liquid into a fog. on high it blows about 20-25 feet. and yes you sprey everything it dosn't take long. I tell the custimers to stay out of the house for at least 1 hour to give every thing time to settel. yes all rooms get hit. I have never had to go back and do a second treatment.even for skunk odores it is something you have to play with to find the right settings. for the room your working in. Like in a crawl spase you can have it on high. In a bathroom you can get away with just standing in the doorway. Blast it a few times and then go on to a nother room.

Word of caution some states like my own require a PCO license for applying microbials. Here in Georgia that means company registration and a designated certified operator in the specific category. Deodorizers are fine disinfecting requires extra licensing.

Agree with Warrior. Taken from the CDC website....

"In the United States, chemical germicides formulated as sanitizers, disinfectants, or sterilants are regulated in interstate commerce by the Antimicrobials Division, Office of Pesticides Program, EPA, under the authority of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) of 1947, as amended. Under FIFRA, any substance or mixture of substances intended to prevent, destroy, repel, or mitigate any pest (including microorganisms but excluding those in or on living humans or animals) must be registered before sale or distribution."

Aside from proper licensing to commercially apply any EPA registered sanitizers or disenfectants also then be sure the sanitizer you use is registered for use in your state.

I think most will miss the point. There are no "safe" methods of deactivating histo spores in structures. Formalin or formaldehyde is propably the most available and efficient but definitely not something you want around people. I would guess large enough amounts of UV or radiation would work but again not something you want around living tissue.
Short version, at this time we have zero methods available that will kill histo (and most other nasties like raccoon roundworm) so the term "disinfect" should be striken from our vocabulary.

Vinke, I've wondered the exact same thing. I done a little looking and the mold guys have products just for that. I would assume in practice we would have to strip the area down to bare wood and sheetrock prior to application. Could be worth looking into.

For the 5 year I did Mold remediation, Kills was spec'd 90% of the time by the engineering firm that was hired as the consultant..
This was for "spot" mold on exterior fire board (5/8 exterior gypsum board with a fire rating)

The SEARCH feature of the CDC web site- http://www.cdc.gov/ will provide a wealth of information. However, just like OSHA- http://www.osha.gov/ many of us have problems complying with every rule and regulation on a daily basis. We must do our best to comply though. I doubt that any of us are over-trained.

I was going to post this last Friday. I called into the MICHIGAN Department of Agriculture. Just to double check on the chemicals that I use here in Michigan. For Deodorizing,Disinfecting and the uses of a atomizer as the one in the above pic. They look at the labels of the chemicals and the application methods. There answer was that we here in Michigan. We do not need to be certified to use a atomizer and that the chemicals that I use are perfectly fine they also told me they have a list of others that I could buy. For the service that I am providing of dead animal Oder, skunk Oder, pet Oder and bat guano.

So if anyone would like to expand your services to use this call your Department of Agriculture. It don't cost you anything to find out.

1) I do not use pesticides.
2)This post was not intended for pesticides.
3) deodorizing is not pest control it's removing malodor caused by a organic source.
4)disinfecting is a form of cleaning with a chemical.
5) The chemicals I use are not regulated or classified as pesticides. These are used in places like hospitals ,schools, daycare , public bathroom, the list goes on.

But thank you for your input and concerns every state regulations are different.

If big brother revoked my permit, I could still run a LEGAL wildlife pest control business.

Someone mentioned Kill-Z - a great encapsulation product in the right situation. No permit or license or approval required from your oh so generous government business partners.

My point is there are ways to solve problems that the blood sucking government hasn't yet figured how to stick their greedy fingers to regulate (tax.)

I had been considering odor control as well. I know there have been a few debates about the legalities of disinfectants in Missouri and I attended a pesticide training class and left thinking that maybe I did need an applicators license. However, I called the Department of Agriculture directly and no licensing is required to use disinfectants or deodorizers.
