Out of curiosity, do any of you people carry a firearm while trapping?

I always carry my Single Six.

I also sling my single shot 12 gauge over my back when I'm beaver trapping in early winter. I'll take every bonus partridge I can get!

I carry a 220 swift in my truck when running traps and a 22 just in case I need it, I use a hammer to dispatch evey thing except skunks.

guess you haven't ever come across a sickly or rabid coon or some other unforeseen reason to have a gun handy?

Not that I use it much for dispatching but I got it if I need it. \:\)

I go nowhere without a gun.
FOR the trapline for dispatch (when necessary), I carry a cheap .22 revolver on my side.

ON the trapline my conceal carry gun needs to be very light and compact due to all the other things I know I need to carry. I usually carry my KelTec P3AT (.380) with a Totally Fragmenting Soft Point load. When I am traveling a little lighter I carry at least an 11 shot 9mm KelTec P11 with the same type loads. You never know when you are going to stumble onto a Meth lab, or who knows what. Not everyone is in the woods for honorable reasons.

My philosophy on carrying a gun is you never know when you are going to need it. If I woke up one morning, and thought, "I think I might need a gun today"; I would climb right back in bed.
So, I get up, pick which socks and gun I want to wear, get dressed and have at it.

the use of .22 cb shorts is almost the same as a pellet gun , we're talking super quiet and approximately the same muzzle velocity

i carry a .22 rifle, my grandpas when he was a kid, but rarely use it. I dont dispatch coyotes or cats with it, just the occasional coon.

22 single action. The Ruger Bearcat is a lightweight accurate firearm. Sure am glad they brought it back out.

My regular trapline gun is a S&W model 34 J frame 4 inch 22. When I am trapping just beavers it it a S&W stainless 4 inch 32 H&R mag. A quality sidearm should always be handy. These are carried in a Bianchi Hi-Ride with a thumb break.

I have nothing clever to put here.

When trapping I carry either a Remington model 12A 22 pump rifle... or a Ruger Single six. Whenever I go anywhere, I always have my Kahr PM9 along, unless I'm wearing the Ruger. I have a CCP so no problems carrying a loaded concealed sidearm.

I checked out the bearcats and they are a nice little gun. But the lack of adjustable sights made me pick the Single six. The 6s are an excellent gun, seriously overbuilt and very accurate. I went with the 4-5/8" barrel, rather than the "standard" 6 or 6-1/2" as it is most comfortable and doesn't hang up getting in and out of the truck, off the ATV etc.

In Georgia we can't get by with a pellet or air rifle as a carry gun on the line. Our law requires that we carry a .22 rimfire.
Adios,

that thing is so inaccurate about all you can use it for is dispatch

Smith & Wesson Model 63 4" stainless .22, I don't leave home without it....

Short, light , accurate, rustproof, totally reliable, and choice of CBs, shorts, or long rifle shells. Worth every penny, and my grandkids will like it some day.

On the trapline I carry a stainless ruger bearcat - using 22 Remington subsonics or CCI subsonics. It does a pretty good job and it is nice light to carry. Usually keep it on the 4 wheeler till I need it.

Buzz, I keep 'em about 1/2 grain under max.
Shot clean thru 3 elk and 2 Black bears w/ my 6 1/2" .41.
That's big enuf 4 me.
But, then again, the new .480 Ruger sounds interesting.
My little girl could shoot the lever gun using the same ammo

Ruger Single Six - stainless , I often have another gun in the truck or person. 40 S&W, SP-101 357, 44 Redhawk/4X Scope if deer are legal. Depends on my mood !

Seldom use a gun for dispatch but you never know. I always carry !

Most folks, even those who are licensed to, don't carry all the time because "It is uncomfortable and inconvenient". Funny, because that is exactly what being shot is.
Come see me tailgating at the the FTA. I just might be able to make it so comfortable and convenient that you will never be without again.
