About as close as you can get without buying a specialized formulation is cream corn in the can from the grocery store. If using for raccoon trapping, the odor from that is the "lure," and the mushed up corn is the visual "bait."

How and when do you plan to use it, and for what animal? Are you intending to use it for cage trapping something this summer for a nuisance animal that you can legally capture now in your state?

Do Louisiana trapping regulations permit the use of leg hold, or Conibear type traps on land? Can you use them at, or in the water? Just curious as to why you are raccoon trapping with a cage trap.

Try just corn oil, what i do for ADC work is use chicken scratch and add corn oil too it , you can add other ingrediants too this as well such as anis oil ectract our you can go sweet add rasberry ,strawberry ,peach extract by them selves or together make use of the cracked corn as a lure/food base for the visual effect and add what smells you want to use and the corn oil helps you get mileage out of the smells you want to create it acts as a fixative somthing else to try is use corn cobbs and soke them in corn oil by itself or add other smells if you like to this as well
they are some sweet corn ectracts you can by as well sold by some of the trapping supply companies or hunting supply on the net ,but you can get All the ingredants above in this post that I use at your local grocery store ,mine even sells the scratch feed

Alright this is an easy one! \:\)

I've been using this stuff for a couple years on nuisance coons. I don't know how they make it but this stuff smells just like good ol sweet corn ... I mean good enough to eat! Lil dab on a ritz cracker ... awful tempting! lol

I've even used it to nab a couple finiky beavers who had taken to eating/damaging a corn field along a drainage

And NO I have yet to actually have deer be an issue when using it ... lol * I wouldn't reccomend this stuff for deer ... not around here anyhow! lol

This stuff is made in various flavors ... I have also used apple ... nice strong smell of apple \:\)

I've seen him post before his folks won't let him use anything but cages due to pets. He's a pretty young guy.

To make a strong sweet corn scented lure or bait one needs to simply use sweet corn fragrance oil. It is an essential oil that is used to make such a formula. The item shown is most likely made from the same material most likely a diluted form with a gel thickener additive.

The uncut form of this oil is extremely sweet when mixed with just about any type of base liquid or paste material.

You will never accomplish the odor reproduction of sweet corn on a natural level to strength of an essential oil. Nor will it last as long in application. It will typically sour if allowed to ferment. No doubt you will catch some things on it but the calling odor push will be considerably less.

If you want to turn a liquid into a gel, get on line and find a fiberglass supply place that sells "Cabosil". Boat builders use it to make resin into a paste. Catsup makers use it to turn runny catsup into thick catsup. It is a very fine, very lightweight powder that is tasteless and odorless. A five gallon bucket full would weigh about a pound.
I used to use it to thicken fiberglass when I glass bedded rifles (before I retired}.

A soft answer turneth away wrath.

Several years ago I made a lure-bait combo with corn as a base and boy did that bring the coons.

If you have dairy farmers near by that have High Moisture shell Corn, get yourself about 3-4 gallons of this. The fermented corn already has a strong odor. Put the HMSC in a 5 gallon plasctic pail and cover with water for say 2-3 weeks during the summer.
It will get even more loud. I then drained the excess water off and ground this stuff up and mixed in 4 cans of mackeral, 2 quarts of livestock molassis and melted some cheap hard fragrant candy and mixed it all together and used about an ounce at each set.

Bryce

i read on the web about ferel hog baits, souring corn and then pouring beer over it in a hole in the ground, guys were complaining that they cant keep coons out of their hog bait, so im going to try some beer and corn down dirtholes this year, since your useing cage traps i would think you could dig your hole and then place the trap over top of it, cant say that it works, but if i didnt think it would work for me i wouldnt share it with you

you could also pre mmix the corn and beer under supervision, then it would just be smelly corn juice that no cop or parent would worry about you drinking
