Whenever I have a live rat' in the trap, I tap him on the head and let the blood trickle all on the bank. Good call for mink. I'd definitely try it.

When I trap rats in the fall I put the skinned carcasses in plastic ice cream containers I saved in summer. I can tightly cram about 5 rat carcasses in one container. Then I freeze until I can cut the carcasses up for weasel bait. Anyway, lots of muskrat blood pools at the bottom as the critters thaw. I pour it off into plastic containers (sqeeze bottles) and mix with a 1 to 6 mixture of glycerine and keep refrigerated until I use them to freshen up bait in the weasel boxes. and of course I also smear Asa's weasel lure on the outside of the entrance hole.

I also had a buddy that had a Slaughter house,. and I always had fresh blood when I needed it, and when I would kill a deer I always had a container to get the blood that would always be in the belly cavity, and just use it in the dirt hole. works good on mostly everything. I would even soak a sponge and use the sponge in the dirt hole. But these Western Critters are lots different than The Eastern Ones. Yancy
