Our winds are back up to a comfortable 40mph or so!

I can see a pretty good pile of things in the bay across the way that used to be in the yard.

Same thing here with the winds. Have had the solar tracker cabled down for over a week as the winds have been relentless. Was getting ready to mow the lawn untill we got about 6-8" of snow last night.

You need a snow-blower ahead of the mower.

Grabbed an armload of firewood from the woodshed last night and as I turned, my headlamp lit up those eyes and I about jumped out of my skin. Cool little guy. He was calm and mellow, let me stand there and watch him for about 10 minutes. I believe it is a Northern Saw-Whet owl. Maybe 8" tall and he found a gold mine of vole activity in the woodpile...

white17:

It's a dumb question, but I gotta ask..

That picture of the Mcgrath Airport that shows the pile of snow along the River Bank, why don't they just push that pile of snow down into the River ? Not officialy Winter yet and that snow pile is just going to get bigger and take up more room.

Are you kidding ? EPA would be here so fast you wouldn't have time to blink. That snow came off the runway. There may be exhaust by-products or rubber particles in it. Are you trying to kill all the salmon and ruin the environment ?

I figured that. They allow for an EPA exemption for dumping snow in Lake Erie , but that was granted just twice.

But, come spring time, it will all melt and it will all end up in the river anyways. But for now, it is safer as snow where it is at.

EPA will allow certain things like the snow dump. We have it here in Nome where they pile it up and it drains into a creek/river drainage. They use the vegetative buffer as a "filter" source.

What do you guys use to sew a snowmachine windshield up? Seems like a hot ice pick and some strong nylon would work.

I drilled holes along both sides and used zip ties.

What TJ does. On an old elan that needed repair once I did that. Started at the bottom and sewed it like I was lacing a pair of shoes crossing from side to side with each of the strings, then went back down from top to bottom on the inside. Formed an X pattern all along the crack inside and out. What worked well was some of that artificial sinew thread used for sewing leather.

a small, sharp drill bit and zipties. also, at the end of the crack, drill a hole. this will keep the crack from continuing ....

a hot pick makes a mess, gets gooey stringy plastic all over, and doesn't make a nice hole.

take your time with the drill bit, don't force it too hard, it may crack. drill about 1/4 inch on either side of the crack, lace up with zip ties. make them about 3/4" all the way along the crack..

I drill the holes , Zip ties work ok but I prefer to use net hanging twine you can get it tighter skip every other hole going side to side going up turn around and hit the open holes on the way back and tie off. You have to wait till you have all the twine laced before you tighten everything up but it can quite often be tightened down enough to the point you wouldn't know it was cracked if the twine wasn't visible

Used fiberglass on mine, it has held up to several rollovers since being repaired.
Hint: if you are concerned about looks, remove the duck tape instead of fiberglassing over it, fiberglass is clear enough to see the tape plainly through.
