1. use a trapstand, set trap so as the animal will not climb on it when coming out of water.

Caught one today on a steep slide.

2. Yes, you can even make your own by placing a log parallel to the bank and securing it. Place conibear in center between log and bank. Place lur along log if big or bank to lead into trap. Blocking added as needed to direct.

Picture how the animal is to enter or exit. Set accordingly.

You may have to set exposed if legal. Set an umbrella of stcks if needed, Just place them where it looks like they were meant to be there.
Make it a natural opening for him to go through.

Take your pliers and clip some limbs to place aroung the trap through the parrallel bars of the springs.

do you set the trap at a 90 degree angle to the bank or stright up?

Most cases perpendicular to the bank. There again picture in your mind how the animal will approach as well as which direction would he most likely come from. Place the foliadge around the trap as well as the trap itself accorningly. Depth of water, where he will place his feet, or whether he will be cruisin down the bank.

You don,t want to place the trap in such a manner he will grab it to pull himself up or to push off of when climbing bank.

On a steep bank, use a short H stand and set trapwhere water meets land at slide with bottom jaws just under water.Angle the trap out over water perpendicular to bank and angle a thumb sized stick over the top jaws to discourage beaver from climbing over trap. This is a deadly set and you can make them by shining up the bank with your boot and using a bit of lure behind the trap.

1---I just use 2 sticks in the x-shape like on flat ground, BUT they must be in deep enough to hold the weight of the trap, put just underwater with a lil brush or dive stick

2--yes, but make sure to use dive stick/brush

Make sure that whatever support system you use that the trap is rock solid. If not you will have sprung traps more often than you like. I like to use sticks and if possible I have all four corners of the trap supported. This is done with two "X" configurations.
