I'm 16 years old and from north east iowa. I have been interested in gathering roots when trapping season gets over. All the land around my area is very flat. I'm curious if there are any roots worth looking for and when they grow.

your gonna want a good reference book to start out with.

a few plants that grow up your way would be poke, black indian hemp, culvers root, butterfly milkweed, calamus/sweetflag, queen of the meadow, wild cherry bark, sassafrass root bark, sassafrass leaves.

Stand by your principles, Stand by your guns, and victory complete and permanent is sure at last.
