Wouldnt use cams especially on beaver/otter. Better off using an L-lock or a universal trap swivel as a drowning lock.

I hear this question asked alot!!! i have always had a problem on getting the right sized cable for this... Nine times out of ten I have 15ft er's. some times I need more then that water depth is so shallow. I always carry 10 ft ext. cabels. The biggest problem has always been getting the weight out in the water for me...especialy on the really sility bottoms of the swamps I trap!!

I make my own funnel traps, here a few pics. I start with making the cone out of plastic.

They are 12 x 36 and you can really pile the rats up with them!

Thanks "Texas",,The troughs actually worked better than I first thought. Was afraid they'd slip and roll around. That didn't happen at all.Next year when our law changes,,maybe the troughs will get used more. The stick is used for all kinds of stuff,,,holds critters down (fox mostly) if I want to. Pulling traps back to you,,as in water sets at times. Removing debris in water (Coon sets etc). Also aids this old guy going up banks and such .. Helps me sometimes get up when I bite the dust.

Reddawg, I hope you don't mind but I am going to copy your grapple pole and your 110 stands. I assumne you are a machinest by trade. You have done a great job on your tools.

Sure go ahead. Yes Machinist by trade. The 110 stands are really good . Their not necessary at all locals but when needed they work really well. A welded 1/4" bolt in center. Make sure your bends are at the right place. Not too far apart. It stops the trap from rotating as on a single rod. I think it's 3/16 sq. stock.Legs are 12" I think. 4.25 or 4.5 wide I don't remember. LOL you probably know how to measure.....................
BTW,,that's a ny-loc nut on those. Stops the nut from working loose over time.Back-n-forth,,back-n-forth,,,,you know the deal.Good luck!

Trough dimensions,,,,,,,,,
16ga s/s 30" long,,, 6" high,,,, Angled length is 10". There is a 1.5" return bend underneath to clamp or bolt to surface of your liking (hard to see in pic). 16" total width.
The angle is about 115*

"Chris",,,I don't know what kind of work your Dad does. But these are bent on a power break at work. He may do that type of work ,,I don't know. No way you can bend these by hand.

Wynn Hall,

Are the funnels made out of slipsheets? How well do they hold up in the weather? Do they become brittle at all? Are the rats able to chew up the plastic?

I've made about two dozen square colony traps of varying sizes for use this coming season, but it seems like round funnel traps would be easier and faster to put together...

Plastic top sheets, they seemed to hold up fine, 1st season of usin them. Rich Kaspar ran some this season, he would be a good person to ask as I know he trapped in ND. I make the cones and sell them and also sell complete traps, I will be at the NTA if you want to see them in person...Wynn

12x36 ,Funnel traps have a advantage over colonys in some locations, Culverts, Large den entrances, wide channels, ect. Also unlike acolony they keep catchin rats(rats will not block the doors) like colonys. Don't get me wrong, colonys work better at some locations but you will pile more rats in a funnel....Wynn
