Would like to send out a BIG thank you to everyone who has given nice words here as well as in Private Message.

As hard as death is, life must go on. The way she committed suicide, was to say the least one of the worst parts of it all.. she showed no emotion that anything was bothering her, was just her usual Shy Yet happy-go-lucky self. Then one night everything suddenly changed..

But once again, Thank you all very much!

February 2 2012:

Look's like Manitoba's groundhog is predicting spring to be on the way.
Which I can understand but dislike, we haven't seen winter here yet.

Things should start to perk up for trapline photo's. My friends funeral was today, it was tough for sure... especially since her step dad had beaten her before she committed suicide. But the worst is over, stay tuned for pictures.

February 3 2012:

Today proved to be a great day! It got up to +1 Celsius.

Ran the trapline with the partner, I must say it's sure beautiful looking at all the frosty tree's along the narrow bush trails. Punched in a few more fisher sets along the way like this one below.
Trap is set about 8" of the ground with Caven's Gusto as bait, with some bad squirrel meat and chunks of fur for some "add to"

Then continued on about checking set, when I turned off to pull a coon set that had been sitting empty for a couple of weeks. When I got up to what should have been an empty set I saw that the bucket cubby was facing the opposite way, and at the end of the chain in a big bowl something with dark fur was poking up. I was waiting for the partner to reach me on the other machine first before walking to it. When he arrived I told him we caught another fisher. I couldn't see anymore then some dark guard hairs and assumed thats what it was. To my surprise it was a little pine marten.
Caught in a 160, plastic pail with Sardines as bait.

Yea I know it's not a huge marten. But it's my first one so I think it's awesome!

that concludes this entry. It was a nice first day back out on the line after all this drama.

February 11,2012:

Been a slow couple of weeks... but today it seems I have discovered the need to pay better attention. Just noticed this massive beaver lodge just off the trail a few hundred feet from where I turn around on the end of my trapline.

clearly visible breather holes on top:

then there was this hole in the ice in front of the lodge:

Then caught this little weasel in a 160 in a pail.
Of course he wouldn't commit to the same bait/lure in a weasel box 100 feet away, instead just run around it.

Squirrel Meat and Grouse Feather - Caven's Just Mice.

Had a look at these two little beaver huts while out for a joy ride.

There was a mound of dirt, or an old collapsed beaver house on the edge of the swamp. Something is living inside.
Scratch marks on sticks entering the hole and it's big enough around for a fat house cat or a small fisher to enter the hole.

My guess is mink on that hole
I would say set a trap but mink season is over so that's not an option
