Right now I pay about $35, including tax, for a 50 ft. by 24 inch roll of hardware cloth from Fleet & Farm. I'm thinking that I probably won't save much money by ordering it from someone like Louis Page, right or wrong?

Paul I just bought 200 ft of 16ga 1/2x1/2 vinyl coated from Klubertanz right there in your own state. Four 50 foot rolls plus a box of tools and J-clips only cost me $135 from UPS, I was very happy. I bought 50 feet of 36" and 150 feet of 24" for a total weight of about 320#.That beats the hosing I've been getting from WCS on my last couple orders. Last order was about 32# and cost way over $50, the gentleman in customer service didn't care when I questioned it.

But what year is it?
I tried to talk to Alan about it at the NTA but just as I approuched the subject more customers walked up and out of respect I quit talking. His guy tried to tell me my package was oversize, 18x18x16 is not oversize. I'll get a hold of him eventually and talk about it. All orders from now on will require a freight quote before I allow it to be shipped.

The shipping is inflated.
I get 4'x50' for $90.00 here in San Diego. That is best price I can find, that is 1/2" mesh to.
For vinyl coated 1/4" which is black and hoa approved for $200 and change for 100'.
I called some places online and it seems the shipping would negate the savings.
I have also found some 3'x100' of 1/2" for 185 but I really like the 4' version better.

Baxter and others: Our guys like the four foot hardware cloth too but for whatever reason, cost has become almost prohibitive. 3 foot is still reasonable at about $45 for a 50 ft. roll but Fleet & Farm doesn't even carry the 4 FT. anymore.

I didnt realize that so many used standard consumer hardware mesh for repair work. I only thought Pesky used it.I have never used it because it doesnt hold its integrity for long by rusting and not being totally animal proof for what I consider an adequate time frame. I have seen it used for repairs on several call backs on consumer and commercial jobs we get from prior pest control companies trying to do wildlife work and some part time wildlife operators using it for their repairs.Coon and squirrels can get by it particularly after 1-3 years of weather working on the non galvanized after weld small gauge wire mesh.

We have made a practice to only use a min. of 16ga. GAW wire 1/2" x 1/2" mesh when needed for vent and other needed repairs.Have you fellas gone back on your work after a few years to see the condition of the screen?

Bob I did go last year to say hello and check on a deck screening I did using local wire a couple years ago. Problem was the property had changed ownership and the new owner basically said yeah everything is fine now get off my property. I was expecting a shotgun to be displayed by the tone of his voice, the wire looked fine from what I could see but I didn't press the issue.

In a case like that I would think you hope the wire doesnt hold its integrity and the varmits get back in. smile

You know Bob, I thought about the same thing, but you would think after 24 years in business, somebody would have called to complain. I think Salys might be on to the answer. Nobody lives in the house they were born in anymore.

And in my experience, that's a good thing. Our first two houses were brand new, but we didn't build them. The house we live in now was built by us and I'm completely happy. Yeah, there are a few changes I would like, ( Like a garage the size of Yankee Stadium ) but I already have a six car garage.

As far as hardware cloth goes, I think we will take your way of doing things under advisement.....Thanks, Paul

I know I will never need to go back in my lifetime to do any follow up repairs with the materials that we use, nor will my younger employees in their lifetime. I dont like any call backs for previous work even 10 years later. Just how I am built I guess.

Hear, hear.
I'm paying $79 for 1/2 inch, 3 X 50' 18 ga. HWC. About a year ago it was $55. Quality goes down, price goes up. What's that place, Dave? Klugertanz? Got contact info?

The one thing that really impressed me is the cloth has a tag on it that states MADE IN USA I made a copy of it and sent it to my customer along with a small sample of the wire and her final receipt. She lives out of state and won't be back until spring so I thought it was a nice touch to show her what she paid for.
