Had a call for a mole job today. When I arrived, the owner was in a 10x12 out building when I arrived. He had a wheel barrow full of sand with more on the floor in the corner. I ask where the mole damage was and he said right here!
There was a ton of sand. The first thing I thought of was a woodchuck. Onces all the sand was cleaned up there was only one soft spot next to the was where the floor rotted out. No wooodchuck did this. The only thing I could think of was a 13 line ground sqr. There was a hole about three feet away heading in the direction of the mound of sand. I set a couple live trap because the owner had an active dog. I did not see any other signs in the area. We will see in the morning.

When we lived in Michigan, my dog (recently departed) used to stand over the holes in our back yard for hours waiting for those
thirteen lined to stick their heads up! In 4 years we only saw her nab one, which we actually caught on video as we were watching
her disappear below the ground in the hole she had dug!

Good luck, interested to hear what it is!

Justin

Everet... i had a job up here that did the same thing inside a guys garage.. I caught the chipmunks that were doing it. If i wouldnt have seen the pile of sand, i wouldnt have believed they could pile it up that high. the lady said that was the 3rd big pile, until they finally called me.

I had a call abous a creature digging in an egress window well. When I got there I couldn't find a hole or the creature so I started digging. I removed about 14 5gal buckets of dirt and was down to the last little bit and there it was. A salamander! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't dug it up myself. This has happened a second time since then at a different clients house so I know for sure it was the salamander digging.

Don't rule out norway rats. I've seen them pile up dirt and sand piles larger than any groundhog hole mound. Especially true with sand from under concrete pads and floors.

Pulled the live trap today. The owner shot a squirrel in one of the traps this morning. Also put carretts in the traps, he thought it maybe a woodchuck. You just can not win some days.
Got on chipmunk. No more digging.

Come on Ron, Bring us up to date. The kid's in college. How's he doing? Any cool bat stories? Isn't it time for you to start fur trapping? How's your dad?
