http://thebeav.topcities.com/fall03/fall03.html#pvcWhen i trap coon I trap coon i don't target fox or coyotes. And I sure don't want to catch mink when there worth very little. So yes the PVC set Is pretty coon specific. I have caught some fox but It's not a fox set. The coon really work the set so guiding Isn't so important. I know lots of trappers shove the PVC Into the bank and place the trap under the lip of the pipe. I feel with this trap placement you miss lots of coon. The coon stands On It's hind feet with borh front feet on the pipe. The coons hind feet are quite a way's back when it stands. Do I run 100s of theses sets,No but they do have their place on the coon line.

i like to use them on a steep bank where i can force the coon into the water. i bed my trap in the water with about 2" of water over it. i like to short stake in this situation. only about 6" of chain so the trap is still covered with water when it is fired. i have had zero coon do any chewing when the foot and trap is under water....i am no expert, but this has worked very well for me. as for the guiding i am just the opposite of the gentleman previous. i like to put a flat rock behind the trap which makes a kind of step down....i put the rock back far enough that the coon has to step into the water between the rock and the trap to get his nose in the pipe. i have had best luck with 1" and a half pipe.....i only leave about 8"of the pipe exposed....i put the bait in first, then a clump of grass stuffed pretty tightly into the pipe, then just a smear of lure on the outside of the pipe.....i would recommend experimenting until you come up with a variation you like... most sets are all about the trapper's confidence anyhow
take me to where the blacktop ends.. then go further with me

I have used them with good success in the water, but would like to learn how to use them effectively on land. i believe that they could be put in with some speed and effectiveness on land. what i am asking is the people who use them on land how do you set them up on land with the trap placement angle of pipe etc. pictures, along with some instuctions would be great. Also could a person get away with not covering the trap with loose dirt that would cause the coon to dig but rather bed the trap below ground and cover with say grass instead.
