Nice place you got there JR, I'm more than a little jealous! Beautiful country. Nice bear, definitely a hog for interior. You get any numbers on him, hide or skull?

That bear hide stretched out on wall reminds me of some the bear pics Frank Glazer had of bears. Interesting on the caliber of rifle he used on those bears also... thanks for posting

Smalltime... The big boar squared just under 9 foot. 8'10" or 8'11" and the skull went B & C at bit shy of 26 inches. A great trophy for a great guy.

RdFx... just the reliable ol .338 Win mag. Them big bears die quick when that first bullet is placed in the right spot. It's those times when that first shot wasn't placed right when you want those big shoulder fired cannons to stop them.

What do you like for a bullet in the 338? I have used Nosler 210 and 225 and did not get the expansion I expected.

I like the Barnes bullets and Swift A-frames myself as well as many others and personal do not own a .338. But like I said before "It's not the bullet or caliber as much as the placement of that 1st shot. I carry a .300 Win mag or .375 H&H mag when I'm guiding myself.

Hey guys, just checking in. Got a couple days off from the mountains to get cleaned up and so some laundry. Having a great season so far. Filling tags for clients and putting meat in my freezer. Found some pretty neat finds this fall out in the mountains. Found a creek that had an avalanche that killed 4 caribou last spring. Looked like the wolverine had a feast.

Watched a golden eagle kill two dall sheep lambs on the mineral lick across from my cabin. That didn't make me very happy but rare to witness I'd guess. I asked him politely to quit as it is illegal to kill ewes and lambs in my unit.
Did some more work on the cabin before the clients showed up. Still wanting to put a deck on and a lean off the side
First client was from Texas. Bowhunter for sheep and caribou and we harvested this monster on the way up to sheep camp. An absolute giant barren ground caribou.

He didn't get his sheep but he'll be back in September with his wife and we'll try again. We had 4 guys from South Dakota all harvest their Dall rams with in the 1st 4 days so that went well.

Got into some crazy water and grew a heck of head of hair over night.

Life is good, weather wasn't that good but still out in the mountains and loving it.

Heading back out through the end of September to get another sheep and couple moose. Hunt hard and be safe this fall guys. Trapping season is right around the corner..

JR, thanks for the ride along with pictures the avalanche chute was really something, but shows mother nature gives and can take away.
Your cabin is coming along nicely I'm sure it's going to be ready for another trapping season.
Those are some once in a lifetime sheep and that caribou is exceptional.
Stay Safe out there!
Allan

Pretty awesome set of caribou antlers JR! Massive beams, maybe a new Pope & Young record? Hard to tell from the picture, is the shovel and bez points combined into one unit, or whats going on there?

I need you to send me a pint of that water, getting a little thin on top! lol.

He is indeed a lucky man. Good to see you taking advantage of it.
Way to go!
Your clients are fortunate, too.

That's a beast of a caribou and the velvet adds to it. Thanks for the usual great pics. Be careful about using any of that crazy water to bath in, hate to see what it would do to armpit hair.

Hey guys, just got in and finished my fall season. Good times, great country, awesome critters and some so so clients and weather. Filled a few tags, met some new friends and came out heathy and safe. Lots of little rodents out there this year. Killed 7 porcupines this summer and fall. That's more than all the years put together.

Spent some time up in the snow looking for sheep. Sheep hunting in September isn't the greatest but sometime it works.

Weather was hit and miss. When it was beautiful, man was it beautiful.

Wildlife was plentiful but legal moose were few and far between.

Harvested a lot of sheep this year but not many moose.

Picked up another #9 hanging in a tree off and old trail that washed out years ago. Happy every time I find a trap and really happy when it's a #9 or Newhouse.

Called in a pack of 12 wolves twice over the season and looks as if I have some blacks this year to play with. There was 5 black pups in the litter this year. Hung a few trail cams and got some pics but need to get some new cameras. These pics weren't really good.

Great season over all and excited for trapping season to start. Got a few clients to go on this winter's trapping adventures. Thinking of heading for Kodiak to try to get a few deer and goat before trapping season starts. Hope everyone had a safe and successful hunting season this fall.
