Hi. I was wondering what method you guys use to wash skinned fur (that is bloody, muddy, etc.) I find it hard to dry the fur after I do wash it, and I didn't know how others handle this. I do know that it is easier to wash the fur on the carcass, but I have a pile of fur that is skinned in the freezer that needs a good washin before stretching. Thanks for any input.

I washed my in a washing machine last nite cold/cold gentle cycle, with 3/4 cap of woolite (coyotes) boy did they come out nice. Then hung to dry overnight and they are dry, will flesh tonight. Coon you can do the same just takes longer to dry.

just wash some old, old towels afterwards with bleach takes hair and smell out if any smell at all, then buy her dinner that night, forget soon after that.

I first flesh my canines and then into the washing machine with some woolite. It doesnt do anything to the washing machine. After use just wipe off the fur from the inside. No different them dirty bloody pants.

If I need to shoot a canine, I tie a plastic bag around their head before I skin them, only blood is in the bag and only have to rinse the head and the hide is blood free. Steve

anyone have pictures of washed k9 vs. k9's just put up. I've never gone through the trouble of washing coyotes except a few real bloody messes. I would soak them in a tub with water and soap, rinse, dry then flesh and stretch. Now when it was all said and done, I could never tell the difference between those few I had to wash and the ones I just skun, fleshed and stretched except that it did take care of all or the majority of the blood. How about you fur buyers, do you see a difference?

I dont have any pics but all it will take is one look in the washer as they yotes are getting cleaned for you to see how dirty the water is. Even clean looking ones seem to dirty up the water. Plus they come nice and silky and shiny.

Don't know if pics will help, but let me tell you this, this year is the first year I washed my yote's and wow what a difference, fur much silkier and less dirty and yes the washing machine water was a mess, fur fluffs up nice afterward also.

How do you guys deal with sub-freezing weather and your washing machines, or do you have them in where it's warm?

Thanks,

I use the same one we wash our cloths in thats down inn the basement. I do 3-4 canines at a time and when I am done I wipe out the inside and run an empty cycle with bleach. I dont really think this is nessasary but it makes the wife happy.

how about the rest of the critters? Do you wash your fox, coon, cat, fisher, marten or mink too?

I'm really going to have do some fancy sweet talking to get her to let me use her washing machine. Ever since I washed my saddle pads in the house, she has been real possesive of her washing machine. The horse hair didn't come out real well, but the saddle pads looked nice!

Thanks,

Washing canines isnt a big deal just wipe out the fur after the cycle. I just wash canines now,I did wash a badger once. Not again. It leaves an odor.

I have a used washing machine in the house just for fur.Skin and flesh then they get washed in cold water w/woolite.The spin cycle gets them pretty dry, they go fur in on the boards right out of the washer.I hang the boarded fur in the basement with a fan on for 24 hours then turn them fur out.Only problem is the basement smells like a wet dog,I'm putting coyotes up mostly. Its alot of work but the coyotes look really nice.Is it worth all the extra work,I'm not really sure!

I flesh all fur before washing in my wifes washer, also I use the wifes clothes drier to dry coyote. Set it on the delicate cycle for about 15 minutes for one coyote; works great; I have an understanding wife, most of the time.
