When a coon comes to water they're walking the edge in and out of the water, looking for food. When they see the foil they're probly a couple in. from it. Not to hard for an animal with nocternal eyes to see it in the dark. They feed on crawfish, minnows, shiners, salamanders and such all in the dark. RD

All the more reason to place it in a P O C K E T.

Like Dan Allen said it works in the pocket. Rd

I was talking about finding food, not the stupid tin foil.

Just like 12 Point said. It works great on a moonlit night. At least it woks great on Texas coons. Put the trap in 1in. to 3in. water and cover the jaws with a few leaves off the creek bottem that are already water saturated so they will stay in place. Let the foil show good. A piece about 1/2in. to 3/4in. wide is all that is necessary. Good luck.

Yes it really works, at least on Texas coon. Put the trap in 2 or 3 inches of water and cover trap jaws with leaves off bottem of creek bed that are already water soaked so they stay in place. You only need a piece of foil about 1/2 in. to 3/4 in wide wraped around pan. I don't know what the guy that said he does't use this set because it is to slow to put in was thinking. It's the perfect set for making fast and large numbers of good coon sets.

NKYBOWHUNTER let us know if it works. I choose pockets and blind sets way before using foil on the pan but when all else fails it's a good set to keep in the back of your mind. Dan

Wow..this post has gone a looonnnggg way on a method I thought was never proven to catch anything. I'm glad it works in Texas because it's a waste of time around my area.

Any of you guys who use this method use rubber frogs or crawfish wired to the pan too?

I heard you can drill a 1 1/2 inch hole in a solid log, drive 6-7 nails around the sides at an angle so they are in the log but the points are all in the hole. You then take pieces of tin foil and roll them in balls about the size of nickels. Put 4-5 shiny foil balls in the hole, which I forgot to mention, should be 5-6 inches deep.

Ol' Masked Bandit reaches in to grab the shiny pieces of foil and when he pulls his hand out the tapered nails prevent him from withdrawing his hand. He won't let go of the foil ball for some reason and will be waiting for you in the morning. Sharpen your knives because you'll need it. Along with the foil on the pan trick, I believe this combination could be deadly on the local raccoon population...

I had out 140 of the find solid log, drill hole, drive nails, foil balls sets out last year with great success. Only problem was I had $500 wrapped up in extension cords to reach from my truck's cigarette lighter to the sets to power my drill. The rechargeable ones don't cut it with a 1 1/2" auger bit.

Good luck trying this awesome set. Have fun and take care....

I've never used fake crawfish on the pan I heard it works fairly good on mink tho.

Look at all the post over a little tin foil on a 1 1/2, set in three inches of water along the bank and some chopped up minnows smeared on the bank and a nice mink the next day by both front feet. Time to make set 1 1/2 minutes... well you get the picture. \:\)

Have any of you tried putting foil over the top of a saucepan to keep leftovers fresh? Works great! Simple, quick and effective. I could slap 100 or so in the fidge in a day.
