Anyone every try the bury the skunk set, with only the end of the tail sticking out. I've caught two stinkers in the last two days, looking to put them use. Always have heard about this set, wondering if anyone has had any success.

tried, never caught a thing. tried a trash moud with one...nothing. tried it laying in the open, used it as a backing in a walkthrough...nothing.

i guess they just dont get hungry enough for skunks, or there smart enough not to mess with them.

It was a general practice of the old time bounty trappers in my region to bury skunk catches with just the tip of their tail showing and then makes sets out 50' or so around the skunk. Suspicuious coyotes and wolves would circle the skunk and get caught in the hole and flat sets made out around the perimeter. Ace

Tried it last year and caught a nice big coon in the set, only problem coon stunk like a skunk.

I have used it and have had good luck on fox with it. Caught 4 or 5 fox on the same skunk and then one day it came up missing the next day caught another skunk, buried it and the next day had a female coyote in it. The only time I have used it though was in farm ground.

I agree with great white hunter, skin them and put them up. You'll probably find that they will fit on some fox or coon boards.

Grap a white cow bone, charred piece of wood, or something, and put some essance on it for an attractant.

It is funny you should say that. This is the second yote I have caught this season and both have been in this same set, the "buried skunk set". You can't see the skunk tail any more, but it was buried about 8 inches in front of the trap. The skunk is still buried there, but the yotes always rip the tails to sheds. Opens up those stink glands, too!

It is a great way to use skunks that you are other wise going to get rid of! At least for me it works great!!

I had every intention of skinning the first one, being a January Northern MN skunk. Looked great, I wallked over and shot it. It didn't spray. I let it die, carried it back to the pickup, and then it hit me. It almost made me puke. I tell you, I couldn't breath. So I put him in the back of the truck, knowing that if I was going to skin him, I had to do it right away, before he froze, because I don't have a place I want to stink up while he thaws out. I got home and I tell you I smelled so bad, I wanted to cut my skin off. I'm thinking plan "B" now.
