I posted a week or so ago about coyotes digging and the more I thought about it and read somewhere, those traps were waxed. It seems that alot of folks are getting away from waxing and going to dipping instead. Anybody have coyotes do this with waxed traps over their career?

I've read that getting your traps dug out is caused by an unstabe trap OR not packing the dirt around the trap solid enough and the critter is curious with the soft dirt and digs looking for somthing buryed ie: food ?? But what do I know. I had it happen to me before.

It's not the wax for sure. I wouldn't reccomend using a dip.

About 20-25years ago I switched to dipping my canine traps. (Just about killed me to try it, thought I might waste a whole season) Will never go back to dye and wax! I only run 15-30 fox traps. (work full time). I catch 25-50 fox a season, 3-8 of these eastern coyotes even though I try to avoid them by using a small trap ( #1 1/2 Montgomery ) and by hugging the hole with the trap. (I just like my fox). As far as contamination, I just hose off dirt, blood or skunk smell, dip and hang and the trap is ready again in a week or so. I just keep rotating the traps I have. Very easy to get ready for the next year also. If anything, I have less dig outs than when I used dye and wax. Just my experience, anyway.

That is what I was told also. I recall that my traps I had set in the past were dipped and I never had these problems.
