I'm just learning this stuff with the videos and had the settings wrong on the camera so the file was too big to put it all on one video so even though its only 3.5min. of footage I had to put it into two short clips. I've corrected the problem now with the camera. Hope you enjoy... part two... ~ADC~

Sweet, I know a guy that skins coyotes like that too, but uses a hand winch instead.

WOW! what a great video set. What do you have welded inside the jaws of the vice-grips? (re-bar)? size and length? Also do you think it would work with a "Choker" style gambrel in the event that You have a chewed leg, or accidentally cut the tendon?

Cold or hot it doesn't matter the winch has enough power to do it. Knew the winch was strong enough but will the hide tear easier being the fat is cold?

Excellent video! Picked up another trick also. Using the utility knife with the hook blades, I use these on beaver but have never thought of using them on coons making the cut across the body.
Thanks

Thanks guys, to answer a few questions, It works great even on cold coyotes. Cold coons are just as easy as warm ones. Yes, I've done a few hundred coons on it but within 10 I had the complete hang of it. On the choker style gambrel it would work but the winch pulls hard so it best be heavy duty. I use a loop of 3/32 snare cable if a tendon breaks. That hooked knife has done 400+ critters this season and is still on side one of the first blade. It doesn't rip the hide. I weld 3 pieces of 1/2" rebar about 3" long to the grips. The winch is from harbor freight... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=44006Here's the direct link to how its made... http://jayme220.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=archive6&action=display&thread=1187482361otterman53 - I'm not sure, but if you figure out how you are welcome to them. ~ADC~

That's all I use Is cable slip nooses. I open 10 or so coon I place a cable loop on them before I hang them It's fast and very effient. I use a bigger loop and slide it up over the tail and as much skirt fur as I can, I attach the other end of the loop to a single hook on the mast and pull. I have never torn a hide.
