I'm just learning this stuff with the videos and had the settings wrong on the camera so the file was too big to put it all on one video so even though its only 3.5min. of footage I had to put it into two short clips. I've corrected the problem now with the camera. Hope you enjoy...

part two...

Sweet, I know a guy that skins coyotes like that too, but uses a hand winch instead.

Nice
If you lop off the front legs before you hang the coon you can elimante the the work arond the front legs and just pull right to the ears.

Thanks for posting that.
I just got back to trapping last year, after a 20 year break.
Seems they're making critters much tougher (and heavier) these days! Heck even my traps weigh alot more than when I was young!
I may need to put one together for next season.
Thanks again.

WOW! what a great video set. What do you have welded inside the jaws of the vice-grips? (re-bar)? size and length? Also do you think it would work with a "Choker" style gambrel in the event that You have a chewed leg, or accidentally cut the tendon?

Got one of you units last fall and it works great. Even big old boars are easy to skin with it. No more hard pulling by hand. Did 35 grinners with it and only ripped one.

Cold or hot it doesn't matter the winch has enough power to do it.

Nice job. How long did it take to reach this level of proficiency with the machine?

Knew the winch was strong enough but will the hide tear easier being the fat is cold?

Excellent video! Picked up another trick also. Using the utility knife with the hook blades, I use these on beaver but have never thought of using them on coons making the cut across the body.

Thanks

The trick is to fold the leg skin or twist it before clamping it. That way it is real hard to tear even when cold. This year was my first year using it and I never tore one.

I can see that would work alot better by folding.Ever have problems with the carcass belly ripping?

Thanks guys, to answer a few questions, It works great even on cold coyotes. Cold coons are just as easy as warm ones. Yes, I've done a few hundred coons on it but within 10 I had the complete hang of it. On the choker style gambrel it would work but the winch pulls hard so it best be heavy duty. I use a loop of 3/32 snare cable if a tendon breaks. That hooked knife has done 400+ critters this season and is still on side one of the first blade. It doesn't rip the hide. I weld 3 pieces of 1/2" rebar about 3" long to the grips. The winch is from harbor freight...

Here's the direct link to how its made...

I just noticed when the video comes up you can click "full screen" then maximize the window. It makes it alot bigger and easier to see just what I'm doing.

That's all I use Is cable slip nooses. I open 10 or so coon I place a cable loop on them before I hang them It's fast and very effient. I use a bigger loop and slide it up over the tail and as much skirt fur as I can, I attach the other end of the loop to a single hook on the mast and pull. I have never torn a hide.

those girlscouts down here have a little trouble peeling coons by hand....figured a machine like that would be helpful...just look, adc's skinning coons all by himself now
