Has anyone ever tried armadillo meat for bait? We have a few here in Nashville, just killed one last night. It was a pretty big one, a lot of meat I am sure. I've never even cleaned one.

I wouldn't. They carry leprosy!

They are one of the nastiest critters around. I'd eat a possum before I tried making bait out of a diller.

I understand that those carrying leprosy are extremely rare and found only in swampy wet areas in very limited areas of Lousianna and not much of anywhere else. From my little bit of research, leprosy is not an issue.
I am gonna keep shooting them, may butcher a couple and try them with a little bait solution marinade. It may have just the right taint to turn on some of these carnivores.

I had a dead one behind my house. Looked out one morning and a coyote was rolling in it.. I slid my bedroom window open and stuck my rifle barrel out and was about to cut him in half when a stray dog that had been hanging around spotted him and chased him off... Man I was (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman)...

I shot one about a year ago(my dog tried to eat it then it hid under my porch). I put the carcass on a pile of brush and set it ablaze. Within 24 hours a coyote had dug through the ashes and eaten what was left. I'm not sure if the fire made it more appealing, but it even ate most of the crispy shell. If you are going to butcher them see if you can sell the skulls at least.

How much do the skulls bring? What method of you use to prepare them? Cut the head off and let the bugs clean it up?

Done the same here, my dogs wouldn't touch it when I first shot it, throw em on the fire, soon as it cools they're munchin, might try it that way, BBQ'ed diller, might make a good bait, all canines love cooked meat, cats too.

I'll pay $3.50 an armadillo skull, simply just cut off the head and freeze. And yes I then skin them and let the beetles go to work

Anybody know what bait or lure works for them? I'd be willing to target some if I could get on them reliably.

I am a seafood and exotic meat wholesaler in California. Do you trap enough armadillos to be able to sell to me?

I've never baited a trap for armadillos and catch a bunch by funneling them. I've got several people who swear it is the best meat they have ever eaten. I myself have never tried it.
