well went to the fur shed tonight walked in and no fur hanging in there I got robbed some time after 12 am they took all the yotes bout 30 and 50 late winter coon some of these were still on the strechers they took them also

There is a good chance you know the culprit. There is also a good chance he was recently in your fur shed.

Call law enforcement,whoever handles trapping in your state,they should know who all the fur buyers are.If that fur ends up out of state to be sold then it becomes a big deal also.

yup they been called report filed with leo but need to move on this my self also have called several of the fur buyers but I know there are more around I don't know about those are the ones I need phone numbers for so any help I can will be helpful to speed this up the ones in the directory I have known them for yrs. and a few others but this is the first time someone has been shopping in my shed I do have a idea who did it but where they live I don't have any idea who is buying there in that area since they do have relations in the areas I have mentioned in the above post so asking all who do live in those areas if they would be kind enough to get that info to me I thank you all now you can pm with this info of the other buyers

Only someone that knows fur and where they can sell it would have done that. Not just some junkie needing a quick score but someone tied into the trapping community. Like others said, someone you know and likely has recently been in your shed, or has talked to someone that has recently been in your shed.

You could certainly be correct, however you may not be. If there are windows in the shed that people can see through, or if he left the door open to the street where passers by could of seen into the shed, it wouldn't necessarily be someone he knew... Also a crime of opportunity if some unscrupulous individual was snooping around and looked in the shed, I'm sure most everyone knows furs can be valuable. I wouldn't overlook the crackheads.

Your best chance to catch them is when they try to sell the furs, I'd be careful to not make it known I was checking with fur buyers or you could very well scare them off and they will just ditch your hard earned pelts. I had a good friend who had his furs stolen from his shed by some ignorant high school kids who had never been in his shed, and they got caught selling to a furbuyer 50 miles away.

same here ADC,one of the gentlemen i worked for lost a whole pickup tuck load.tryed to sell it to a good friend of his about 50 miles away.bad part was it was a young man he had just started taking under his wing and was helping the kid out.worst part to me is the trust loss with everybody he felt.

Wow, I hate thieves I got hit this past spring, all my turkey stuff in my truck including my 6 month old Bennelli Super Black Eagle. I guess if I ever had to stoop to being a thief I sure as heck would steal something of value and it wouldn't be fur, lol. Just proves how stupid people are.

What type insurance would pay this loss. Will homeowner policy pay for stolen fur or is a business policy required?

It's hard to say for sure. Homeowners insurance policies contain limitations for any property used at any time in any manner for a "business" activity. "Business" is defined as any trade, profession, or occupation. The limitation is $250 maximum coverage for business property in most cases. Insurance companies tend to be fairly liberal with their homeowners insurance coverage but the business property limitations and exclusions are ones they tend to interpret fairly strictly. Particularly if there was any significant dollar value involved, I think they would be more inclined to consider trapping a "business" activity rather than purely a hobby or recreational activity.

I would never count on your homeowners policy covering traps or furs. If you want to be sure they will be covered when lost, you had better get a business insurance policy. You would be hard pressed to get a business insurance policy for less than $500 per year and it would likely cost more.

He could also look into getting a rider for fur if he doesn't already have it. Our policy covers fur upto $1500+- any additional furs can be covered with a rider. That rider is steep but would be worth it for those that catch a lot of fur.

This may be a dumb question but how is a fur buyer supposed to identify your fur from all of the other furs that someone might bring in? I mean a lot of guys are calling it quits for the season and hauling their furs in right now.

It has to be someone that has been in your shed recently. I don't let just anybody in my shed for anything at any time of the year. People don't have any business knowing what is in there. I also recommend buying one of those driveway alarms, if you put it in the right spot there's no way anyone can get close to the shed without you knowing.

well they got them due to the investigation I cant say a lot I did recover most but not all I want to thank all T man members who sent ph. numbers for local buyers that I did not have

I'm going to guess that when the perp took the pile of furs to the local buyer, he was asked a few random questions that just happened to be too technical for them to BS their way through, sending up red flags to the buyer. Busted!

I was robbed in 1976. It was a two man job. One has spent the majority of his life in and out of prison. The other one is an active General in the Marines.

The career criminal got time. The marine general was a juvenile. He was ordered to make restitution (they had sold the fur). He didn't have the money right off so he gave me some guns as collateral. I pegged him for a decent kid with the wrong partner. I never dreamed he'd go that far. Last I knew he was in Afghanistan. I think he may now be retired.

Now days a person could never get into the military with a tainted record. I'm happy he got a second chance. I know he saw a lot of action and served all of us very well.

yes they were nabbed here it goes leo was called in turn I called all the local buyers told them what had happened like once there were many now there is few so didn't take to long well one of the buyers( bad for the robbers). was the one they decided to move the fur to he was on the ball they showed up and he looked at it and declined to buy it at all but he did get the liscen plate description of the truck and there description he notified his co. who put out the word with plate number well to make it short 4 days after the fact they were busted
they had 3 felony counts pled down to one count of theft max of 5yr in the house of many doors but they got 5 yrs supervised probation with a stay of 21
mo. in the big house if they were violated plus restitution of 800. for loss of un recovered fur which had been sold
the charges were
breaking and entering
transportation of stolen goods over 1000.00 across a state line
and reciving stolen property
he was also fined 1000. plus court cost and to serve 30 days in county lock up and restution
he was a adult and 2 juvies
at that time he also had other charges in other countys pending for other charges
my thanks got to SD. CO.s LEO MN. and SD. and most of all to the fur buyer and friend I would name the buyer but I don't think they realy know who hung them out to dry I think one of there family might be a member here so with that in mind for his safty I will not say who he is but he knows and he is a member on here also so Thank you again.

coonman and ron yes I did know the adult as a young trapper as a act of kindness I helped him out with some traps and helpful hints on trapping he was introduced thru his step dad who was also helping him learn how to trap he had been in my fur shed one time

Sadly seems to be a familiar theme of them not paying. Short of going to more expense of putting a lean on their house one usually has to just write it off. One would think the court could give them a deadline and then they could be pursued for contempt of court. Guess you are stuck with a deadbeat sorry to say.

One would think staying out of prison would be contingent with paying the restitution.

My brother-in-law was just recently was involved in a business deal were $50,000 got fraudulently wired to wrong bank account. Since it happened across state lines FBI are the only ones that can act on it. They told him the account is still open but because the $ amount is too small they don't have the resources to investigate it.
