First check on first job. One mole cannibalized to the point of all the meat was basically gone except for the skin, skull and feet. 48 hr check. This one will most likely be a high harvest job. When I catch 6-8 the first check there are usually many more to come yet. 3x to 5x more likely on the next 3 checks. Very common. We do get those small catches on occasion but not often.
All Trapline trap catches. 2 doubles in these catches. Lots of doubles here on the properties with several years of activity.
I can do a one set very quickly with my system of two traps. Those working other traps I am sure have developed their own method of trap setting mechanics. I have developed a tool that is used with these traps that speeds up the setting and efficiency of the system greatly. It will be available soon.
You do have to check each set visually but it is fast the way I do it. Just takes a few seconds to access the set up to see if the traps are fired. We price our jobs accordingly for time spent. Mole work, is work in our areas if you do it well. You have to set a lot of traps to get a good harvest reduction in these parts.
I can get about 20 doz traps in a 5 gal bucket if I place them well. Very lightweight. I can set 30 to 60 traps per job many times on high activity areas. That is 15 to 30 set ups. I can probably do a dig in and set up in 90 seconds or less of two traps per location. Maybe faster if I wasnt being too distracted from the homeowner watching me set traps over my shoulder in her yoga pants.
The most time consuming part of mole work is reading the tunnel system to determine the best locations for your traps. If you are good at maze puzzles and search a word puzzles you will most likely be a good mole trapper.
