Christmas Tree, Balsam Pine, pinch some needles and see if they are fragrant.

If the needles are square and roll between your fingers it's a spruce. If they are flat and won't roll it's a fir.

I agree. A white will have a few cones at that age where a Norway won't produce cones until much older. Definitely a spruce either way.

I agree with the White Spruce crowd. Crush a few leaves, there is a reason they are called "cat pizz spruce".

When they get big you can collect the juice from the bark blisters and use it as an emergency antiseptic on cuts and burns in the bush.
Same with Balsam.

Well I don't know what kind it is. Why are trees so complicated? I google white spruce and blue and black spruce come up in the pictures. I think it will look good along the pathway through our bush, how about that? Lol

White spruce. No, its needles don't stink. We have them all over the place around here. I got a dozen on my suburban lot.

Not a Norway spruce. Those have a more bluish cast to the needles.

They weren't flat. But they weren't round. They were thick and triangular. So people would prob say round. I will be back there in a few days, so I'll pay more attention to their shape.

Also check and see if the cones are pointed up or hanging down.

I've moved quite a few spruce they manage ok if you get plenty of root but it's not the best for them and they struggle for sure. They grow slowly here anyway.

They grow up ugly. I have 4 in my yard and would cut them all down but they make a good wind break.
