I wasn't gonna post about it, but it's gettin worse
Had an allergic reaction to something...was eating the other day an all a sudden BAM! I start having a reaction to somethin, My throat immediately swelled up, and I got red blotches and hot yet kinda chilled at the same time!!

Thought it was somethin I ate, but now it has happened now 5 times in the past month! Twice last week. It really wears ya out from having to take benedryll it makes me super tired sick tired
Could use some prayers if ya'll are willing to send some my way!

Have to take benedryll within 10 minuets or the results could be bad.
Got an EppiPen and carry benedryll everywhere now...

Not sure what is causing it yet, it is something I eat but nothin is in common with the things that trigger it!!
Never been allergic to anything except poison ivy so this is pretty new to me.
Anyway, I'm still alive an kickin grin Don't let nothin stop me,
remember to live each day to the fullest

Well I can not pray for you, but will keep you in my thoughts. Thats probably not going to help much either, so my advice is that you stay with simple foods, Like just beef for example and then add something like pepper, then add one thing at a time to narrow it down to the thing that hurts you.
You can live on beef and potatoes and water for quite a while, Keep things simple and add one thing at a time and monitor what it does to you. It does not have to be beef, Pick any of your favorite proteins and stick with it.

Have you by any chance, been eating Morels? My wife ate those things for 30 years and then all of a sudden, she got sick from eating the darn things. she wasn't sure that Morels made her sick the first time, so she ate some more of them and within 3 hours she was sick again. Caused a rash, up set stomach, and tunnel vision .

If one has cold urticaria how do they trap when fur is heavy?

Lydia...food allergies can happen at any age and any time. Your epi pen is your best friend, followed by a trip to the emergency room. If you feel swelling, shallow breath do not hesitate to put that pen in your thigh. If you hesitate could be to late. Then have someone drive you to the ER.

Yes you have my prayers, but you also need a game plan.

What happens if you are running a line stop for a break and this occurs. You may only get one shot to react and communicate back for help. Be advised once you get your epi injection you time starts. Thus give the shot, then call 911 on the cell phone. Be prepared to provide Lat and Long.......don't say I am 5 east of the big red barn. Because you could be confused and and your ten mile's south. So provide Lat and Long. Then grab a blanket and wait. Do not disconnect the call. You'll get help.

Prayer and hugs they find out what the culprit is. But don't stop there make sure the experts tell you what family of food is associated with the culprit.

Larry

Lydia, it may be that you are allergic to tomatoes. Tomatoes are in lots of food and cause reactions like yours in people who are allergic to them. Because tomatoes are mainly used as flavoring, rather than the main ingredient, people often don't quickly figure out that is what they are allergic to.

My youngest Brother and Grandfather are both allergic to tomatoes. My brother would not eat anything with ground beef growing up or tomatoes. When he was in college he ate a dish at his girlfriend's aunt and uncle's house, that had tomatoes in it and got sick like you do. He found out he had a food aversion to ground beef, because it is commonly eaten with tomatoes.

I'm alergic to all nuts, it sucks but is not as bad as some people have it. Have you had to use the epipen? I have not had to but have gotten close a time or two.I hope you figure out what is causing it. I'll be praying, keep us posted.

Thank you all!!
Thought it was peperoni, nope.
Thought it was some kind of bread. nope.
Now thinking possibly a preservative.

What threw me off was it happens at both restaurants AND homemade food. Seemingly no corrolation between. Guess i just like to keep people thinking grin

Could be pollen from fruit or vegetables. Have a coworker that claims that's his deal with not eating fruit. Gives him a bad allergic reaction even though he used to eat the stuff.

Look into annatto. Many people, my young niece included, are finding they are very allergic to this food coloring product. Good luck, don't panic, and keep the pen handy. You'll figure it out.

Knew someone that went thru something very similar. As I remember it happened when he ate meat. I seem to remember cheeseburgers in his diet also. I'm thinking a presertive in the meat.

Prayers for you Lydia - please get it checked out and diagnosed as to what you are allergic to. The body can reject anything at anytime when it comes to allergies. You may have had very mild symptoms before but now the body says no more!! As stated above - keep the pen on you at all times. When you feel that reaction - inject yourself and get to the ER. You may need more than one injection if it is severe enough. Don't mess around with it.

Perhaps you should lay off the meat for a bit? Id check the ingredients in the taco seasoning.

My sister in law is allergic to some uncooked vegetables.

You didn't say what you drank with those meals? Could be a dye in the drink? You drinking strawberry YOO-HOOs or that unicorn drink from Starbucks?

Perhaps you should lay off the meat for a bit? Id check the ingredients in the taco seasoning.

My sister in law is allergic to some uncooked vegetables.

You didn't say what you drank with those meals? Could be a dye in the drink? You drinking strawberry YOO-HOOs or that unicorn drink from Starbucks?

Its not the meat itself but ingredients in the taco seasonings, tomato sauce, etc.

I this day and age there is no excuse for not carrying a ACR personal locator beacon with you if you have health issues, or are in situations where lack of communication is life threatening.

An ARC PLB is registered with NOAA, you include specific personal information when you register with NOAA, preferred emergency contact information and other specifics that will help rescuers find you.

There is no subscription fee, just the initial purchase price; pretty cheap insurance. Here's a link.

I had to have the test where they scratch different things on your back and wait a few minutes to see what reacts. you might want to do the same.
hope it gets better soon. allergies are frustrating to live with.

Its a real disease you can get from ticks. Have read about it on here, I hadnt heard of it either till it was posted here. It aparently make you allergic to any meat from an animal that has fur/hair.

Have you had a bite from a lone star tick lately?

The tick disease mentioned is called Alpha-gal. Your family doc cannot test for it, you must go to an allergy specialist to have it diagnosed.

My wife has this and cannot eat any mammal meat. Birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles, are all OK. She gets tested about twice a year to see if her levels have went down enough to try some lean meat(fatty meat is worse).
The toughest thing about self diagnoses is that the reaction is often delayed 6-8 hrs and doesn't happen every time you eat meat.
2am ER trips get old quick. Get yourself checked out.

Bruce...all due respect, but I can promise and assure you that this is a very REAL condition. I personally know two people down here who have this problem and know of another person who's brother has it. It is NOT a made up condition. I hope you never get the Lone Star ticks in your area that transmit it.

Lydia....keep that Epi-Pen with you ALWAYS until you figure this out OK?? Prayin' for you!! smile

I understand where you are coming from.I'm just very wary especialy since its not proven by science.

(Though it hasn’t been scientifically proven, researchers think the Lone Star tick produces a sugar from its gut called galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, or “Alpha-Gal.” In some cases, the human immune system develops an allergic response to that sugar. Because Alpha-Gal is also found in red meat, a bite by the Lone Star tick may translate to an allergic reaction to anything from beef hamburgers to bacon. Repeated tick bites can potentially cause the antibody level of Alpha-Gal to rise, worsening reactions.)

It's not just Lonestar ticks. Our deer ticks are carrying Alpha-gal now too.

Make it a point to mention alph-gal to your allergist. Local allergist here was having trouble with a patient trying to figure it out. He wasn't aware of it until the receptionist lady, who is a hunter, brought it up.

Get it checked out Hunting Girl. Allergic reactions are nothing to laugh about, especially when you do not know what is causing it. Again get it checked out!!!
In 1987 I found out the hard way I was allergic to penicillin drugs. I had taken them all my life but that time I developed Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Landed me in the hospital for 7 days and as sick as I had ever been. My reaction started internally where most reactions are on the skin, lips etc. Clear liquid diet in the hospital for 6 of 7 days almost did me in.

And for almost 10 years afterwards I was super sensitive to tomatoes or anything using tomato sauce, I would get terrible outbreaks of canker sores but thankfully it went away. (I love pizza!)

Get to the doc and get him/her to draw some blood and test you for alpha gal. It's a allergy that lone star ticks can now carry that gives you a reaction to all mammal meat. My brother has it. In the meantime stay away from red meat, if this is what it is poultry and fish should be fine to eat still.

Edit: I see others have already brought this up, still get tested!

One morning 6 or 7 years ago my dad put a piece of toast in his mouth. Blood blisters formed right away. Started to happen every time he tried to eat. His throat swelled shut. Ended up starving to death, though it was a heart attack that killed him. It was some sort of auto-immune disease and I can not remember what it was called, but it took them months to figure out what it was, and the treatment was going to take years. Nobody could have made it long enough for the treatment to work. I watched as he starved, I will not die like that.
I'll try to find out what the doctors thought it was if I can.

GC-- I too had blood blisters in my mouth, throat and internally before the rash developed on my body. The only treatment was doses of steroids and pain meds. I had a lidacaine viscous to put in my mouth whenever I was to eat my "clear liquid diet".

In my case it was the sickest I ever has been Lydia. And those who know me know I LOVE to eat, the clear liquid diet about killed me in itself.
Completely zapped my energy, I was on IVs at the hospital after 3 days they got me up to walk----I made it about 3-4 doors down the hall before I had to sit down.

Have you been to an allergist yet? Trying to self diagnose the problem could be making the issue worse.

Flour, cheese and salt are all common in the foods listed, possibly onions if you added any to your BLT or used an onion bun for them. Since all the foods had a bread of sorts then yeast would be another common ingredient. You probably have developed this allergy over time and it is a common enough occurrence. I have eaten chocolate all my life but now I have to be careful because I have started developing an allergy to some types and it can get bad enough for me to go into coughing convulsions and pass out, I don't eat much chocolate anymore!

Prayers for you and I hope you get this figured out.

have you eaten any of the foods that you had an issue to since? Not saying it is a good idea, but you have ruled things out due to not having a reaction to them but you may not have a reaction to the exact food that you did have a reaction to. If that makes any sense?
