Bought a used chest freezer to make into a livewell for shiners.During hot weather you simply plug it in and keeps the water cool.Just got to remember to keep the lid partly open.Still need to add the submergable water pump, filter and a aerator.Know alot of people who do this and with shiners costing up to $5 a dozen it really helps.

didnt think of that bruce lake champlain here gets pretty warm. i ran a bait shop for yeaars on the lake here, and if ya dont know (1) cup of non-iodized salt per ten (10) gallons is recommended for most freshwater bait. This helps to reduce scale loss as well as slime coat loss, which protect the bait.

Sounds like an idea worth trying.

Nice looking tank. Our shiners go into shock and regurgitate. So we put them in 2 or 3 clean buckets in a series. About 5 minutes apart. Then to a travel tank. Then dipped out again to the main tank. Thanks for the salt tip.

Tape a piece of wood or metal beside the air hose that crosses into the chest so the lid cannot crush it because it will cut off the air flow.
