Some inventive old trapper brought that broken Newhouse back to life to catch animals again ide say. With the bait spike it is more of a killer trap instead of foot trap now. Newhouse jaws, posts and spring for sure. Interesting but not worth much imo.

The way it's designed you could place that over dens for a one way catch.

Bait spike? You mean the dog on the jaw? I just find it amazing how well all 4 corners are bolted and pinned!!??

The trap might be an original Newhouse and worth thousands of dollars. PUT IT ON E-BAY! I am sure it is one of a kind. grin

I may be wrong or just not seeing well but it appears to me that there is a triangle stamped into the jaw opposite of the jawspike in the third to last picture.

Could be a Willis Rice Trap, just a guess, he made up all kinds of different traps , send a picture to Ron Frodeluis he may know what it is.

mrbuffalobills, Tom Parr is a great guy and very knowledgeable. But, I can tell you that your trap most likely started out as a Newhouse. The base however, is not factory, it is a trapper modification. Though it is well done, it does not have factory quality or tool marks. The rivets have been flattened by a hammer. At the factory they would have used a press or a trip hammer that compressed the rivet in one motion rather than beating it flat. They would be more like the rivets in the jaw posts. Also, the factory would not have used the screws in the corners or the washers for spacers. It is an interesting design, someone had an idea and did some fabricating to meet the need.
