Most state and government stampings on Newhouse traps I've seen look factory done. US stampings seam common, how many different states have their name on Newhouse traps? I've seen Michigan, Nevada, Texas, that was either factory stamped in the base or cast in jaws. Is there other states names factory struck and what are they?

I have Newhouse traps stamped on the base from

Washington
Colorado
Wyoming
Michigan

From what you have seen over the years which of those state markings are harder to find?

I have been told that the Shoshone-Bannock tribal stamping is one of the hardest to find.

I know that isn't a state but there are other tribal markings as well (Navaho for one)

I have also seen factory stamped:

Oregon Sanitary Board
California
Pennsylvania
Minnesota
Pecos county

Tx. Predator Control Agency. Another - the Property of State of Tx. has the little shape of Tx.
stamped on jaws. I saw a Goshute Reservation once.

I have "COLO" Colorado on a Newhouse #3 1/2 and "Property of State of California" on a Victor 3N.

I have several variations of US markings on Newhouse and Victor 3N and even a 4N.

If anyone has an Oklahoma or Arkansas I would be interested in buying or do some trading.

Nice Pictures Don, thanks for posting. Some of the State govt. stampings are pretty crude, especially Utah, which makes them pretty easy to Fake. So as always, buy from a reputable collector and as always, buyer beware on your Govt. stamped traps. They were used hard so to find one in pristine condition is almost impossible.

my new house has nothing stamped on it does that mean its a newer style trap?The dog and pan have a odd style sharp angle cut on the dog and the same in the pan that normal or a mod

TONY.F: By far the majority of Newhouse traps were sold to individuals and those traps will not have been stamped with the names of government agencies so yours might be of any age but were traps sold to individuals. The dog and pan connection that you describe is normal for old Newhouse.

Can anyone tell me what or why the "Property of United States" is also typed on some as "Property of US"? For sure, I see more of the prior than the latter....

I have a victor #3 stamped NAVAJO TRIBE. I bought it at the tribe store while hunting javelina back in the 80s.

Quite a few people have contributed to this thread thankyou to those. Thought I might add there is some government marked traps out of Canada. Government of BC, certain mine disticts in Ontario marked traps, the province of Quebec, possibly Alberta. Most traps marked are Newhouse and most marked by their own agencies that used them.

GFOC-does stand for Game, Fish & Oyster Commission of TEXAS. GFOC or GFO was used on traps from 1907 thru 1951, when "oyster" was dropped. In 1963, Game & Fish Commission turns into Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept (TPWD).

I have a number 1 victor longspring with "Washington dept. of Game" stamped on bottom. I was told that they were used at fish hatcheries to trap "predatory birds"....

About 20 years ago I saw a pile of PA Game Commission traps, in a metal salvage yard Owego Ny, Sure would like to know the story on how they got there.
