Mackenzie district fur co.Ltd. Pan also says fabrique 1886 hbc. #15. Is this a repo or did the actually make them?

What I don't understand about the "reproduction" part is, - Ive never saw an actual Mackenzie made in 1886. to be copied. I think it is just a newer trap.

Good point. Folks often refer to any of the newer bear traps as being reproductions. Which I guess is sort of an incorrect term. Thanks for making that point.

New Generation Bear Traps. Jim Rivers supply company that Bob Nelson has. Produced between 1983 to 2000. I believe there were 5,000 made. The Mackenzie was replaced by the Denali.

Guys use to buy those Denali traps and go to Maine and trap bears with them.In 2006 bear trap trapping was made illegal to use only leg snares.

The Mackenzie I had needed clamps to set it. Funny story, I was at an auction about 10 years ago. There were 3 or 4 Newhouse bear traps and a Mackenzie there. A guy asked me what trap would get the most? I said the NH 5 Kenwood possibly. He said the Mackenzie will because of the 1886 on it-he was right. All of the traps got plenty per condition but the Mackenzie was the winner....
