Like was said before, build a platform with 2x4's and plywood, any size you want (bigger is better especially if you put up a lot of fur). Get a good porch and deck paint (oil based if you can use it in your state) and add the grip additive to put in it. Solid coating, and it doesn't get slick when it is covered with grease. Sherwin Williams or Valspar. Also, head to the local saw mill and pick up a couple pails of sawdust. Really helps soak up the grease.....
My holding pen is flat....And made of basswood....

Good idea with the screws and plywood. That gives you a lot more options if you need to remove for some reason or add to.
